TRANSCAER® National Achievement Award - May 2004 by National TRANSCAER® Task Group sponsored in part by the American Chemistry Council
BNSF received this recognition for its exceptional support of the TRANSCAER® program through organized activities, commitment, financial support and manpower investment. TRANSCAER®, which stands for Transportation, Community Awareness and Emergency Response, is a nationwide community outreach program designed to promote chemical transportation emergency preparedness and awareness in communities.
Most Innovative Solutions Award - May 2004 by Speech Technology Magazine
BNSF's implementation of Voice Train Reporting (VTR) was selected as one of two winners of the magazine's "Most Innovative Solutions Awards" for 2004. VTR allows field personnel to report train arrivals, departures, pick-ups and setouts via MRAS radio or cell phone using voice recognition, providing real-time information and greater customer satisfaction. Applications were judged on their ability to increase customer service, improve efficiency and utilize speech in a creative format for an automated solution.
Harold F. Hammond Employee Safety Award - May 2004
On May 6th BNSF Carman Dennis Robinson of Newton, Kan. was named winner of the Harold F. Hammond Award for railroad safety for 2004. Mr. Robinson is a 39-year veteran of the railroad industry and is a member of the Carmen's Division of the Transportation Communications Union. The Harold F. Hammond Award was established in 1986 and is awarded to an individual railroad employee who has demonstrated outstanding safety achievement during the preceding year.
E.H. Harriman Memorial Safety Award Silver Medal - May 2004
On May 6, BNSF received the 2003 E.H. Harriman Memorial Safety Award silver medal for Group A railroads. Group A comprises line-haul railroads whose employees worked 15 million employee-hours or more during the award year. BNSF also received a special certificate of commendation for continuous improvement in safety performance. Harriman Awards are granted to railroads on the basis of the lowest casualty rates per 200,000 employee-hours worked.
