In 1911 our home office was a converted stockroom above a downtown Wausau cigar store, and the Wisconsin north country was still trackless logging territory. We began by insuring local operations, sawmills, and paper companies including Wausau Sulphate and Fibre Co.--now the Wausau-Mosinee Paper Corp. That first policy is still in force today.
The years since then have been marked by momentous change. Advancing technology, increasing productivity, and rising competition transformed the business world. Wausau changed to meet it--striving to meet the changing needs of our customers. Along the way, we forged the loss prevention methods that have helped keep workers safe and save employers money.
As we grew, we moved into larger facilities and opened branch offices. None carry as much significance though, as the railroad depot that became our corporate symbol and clearly represents our Midwestern heritage.
