The Sikorsky and Boeing Helicopters team is developing the U.S. Army's new armed reconnaissance helicopter, the RAH-66 COMANCHE. The program won a $3.1 billion Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract in the spring of 2000. The team will manufacture and deliver five new Comanche helicopters for EMD testing, and deliver another eight new aircraft to the Army for operational test and evaluation. Two prototypes are already in flight test at West Palm Beach, Fla. The first U.S. Army Comanche unit will be operationally equipped in 2006.
Sikorsky is leading an international team to produce the S-92 helicopter. The S-92 program has achieved significant milestones and built a growing potential customer base since first flight in December 1998. Leading aerospace companies in Japan, the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Brazil and Spain are members of the S-92 team. Cougar Helicopter, an offshore oil operator based in eastern Canada, has reserved the first production S-92 helicopters. In addition, the S-92 is being offered in international military competitions.
A research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) contract with the U.S. Army in 2001 launched the Sikorsky UH-60M BLACK HAWK helicopter upgrade program. The program ultimately will involve the modernization of as many as 1,200 aircraft during the next 25 years.
Sikorsky delivered a total of 70 aircraft in 2000. Core U.S. military production programs are based on the H-60 aircraft, the U.S. Army BLACK HAWK and the SEAHAWK series for the U.S. Navy. H-60 derivative aircraft are fielded for a multiplicity of missions with other branches of the U.S. military. Sikorsky's CH-53E and MH-53E heavy-lift aircraft are flown by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to transport personnel and equipment and in anti-mine warfare missions.
Customers in 2000 received eight new commercial S-76 aircraft. The S-76C+ is the latest model in production. S-76 variants can be found around the world serving airline, executive transport, offshore oil, search and rescue and emergency medical service missions.
Worldwide, S-70 BLACK HAWK helicopter variants are serving, or are on order, with 25 governments -- Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, People's Republic of China, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.
Sikorsky is established in the international market with licensing agreements with Westland in the United Kingdom, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan and Korean Air. Sikorsky and Korean Air are co-producing BLACK HAWK helicopters for the Republic of Korea. In Japan, MHI is licensed to produce SEAHAWK aircraft and BLACK HAWK derivatives.
Sikorsky Aircraft is committed to employees having quality of life that enables them to reach their full potential at work and in their personal lives. Our family-friendly policies and programs help employees grow personally and balance their home and professional lives. Our comprehensive benefits program provides valuable financial protection to employees and their families. Although benefits vary across locations and job categories, most benefits programs include: medical, dental, life insurance, dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan, savings plan, holidays and vacation. Other benefits are also offered.
Medical
Quality medical plans are offered to help protect employees and their families from the burden of paying high medical costs. All of the medical options provide coverage for routine and medically necessary care, so employees have the comprehensive coverage they need to stay healthy. Some of the medical plan options are: a point of service plan, a preferred provider option plan, an indemnity plan and health maintenance organizations. Prescription drug services are automatically provided in conjunction with medical benefits.
Dental
Dental plans are offered to help employees pay for a variety of dental services. Depending upon the dental plan, covered services may include: routine examinations, cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments, fillings, inlays, onlays, extractions, periodontal treatments, bridges, crowns, dentures and orthodontia.
Life Insurance
Life insurance offers employees an excellent way to protect their family's financial security. If an employee dies while being an employee at Sikorsky Aircraft, the life insurance benefit is paid to help the surviving family adjust to some of the financial changes they will face. Various life insurance options are offered based upon job location and category.
Dependent Life Insurance
The death of a family member can have serious financial consequences. If an employee's spouse dies, the family income might be significantly reduced, or the employee might have to start spending more of their income on child care. Dependent life insurance offers some protection against the impact of these financial changes.
Accident Death & Dismemberment Insurance
Sikorsky Aircraft offers Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance which provides additional financial protection if an employee is seriously injured or dies in an accident. Coverage options are the same as the life insurance options.
Disability Insurance
Sikorsky Aircraft offers three disability benefits-sick pay, short term disability and long term disability-which provide employees an income if they become disabled while employed by the company. These benefits are designed to work together to provide income and relieve some of the worry about how employees will support themselves or their families if they are unable to work because of illness, injury or pregnancy.
Retirement Plan
As a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Sikorsky Aircraft sponsors UTC retirement plans that can supplement a retiree's income from the savings plan, Social Security and personal assets. Employees make no contributions. UTC pays the full cost of the plans. Some basic features include:
Vesting Provisions: An employee is vested in the pension benefit by completing 5 years of continuous service. An employee will be entitled to receive pension benefits starting as early as age 55 even if he/she leaves the company before retirement.
Early Retirement: An employee can retire with full benefits that have been earned to date once age 62 has been attained and the employee has completed at least 10 years of continuous service. An employee can retire with reduced benefits once age 55 has been attained and the employee has completed at least 10 years of continuous service.
Plan Payments: Employees receive monthly benefits for life when they retire. They may choose one of several payment options that provide a survivor benefit after their death to their spouse or another beneficiary.
Savings Plan
As a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Sikorsky Aircraft sponsors UTC savings plans that help employees save for the future. When employees join a savings plan, they save for retirement and other long-term goals by contributing a portion of their pay on a pretax and/or after tax basis. UTC matches a portion of their contribution with UTC stock.
Reimbursement Accounts
Health care and dependent day care reimbursement accounts are offered as a convenient way to pay for certain health and dependent care expenses that aren't completely covered by medical or dental plans and to save on taxes at the same time. When employees direct part of their before-tax salary to a reimbursement account, they lower their taxable income for the year. This means they pay fewer taxes and have more take home pay.
Holidays
Sikorsky Aircraft grants paid leave to observe the following holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas and the days between Christmas and New Year's Day. To qualify for holiday pay, employees must be at work the day before or the day after a holiday. One floating holiday is also allowed each year.
Vacation
New employees are eligible for vacation time off in the year they are hired after completing thirty (30) days of full-time employment.
Employee Scholar Program
Since Sikorsky Aircraft is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Sikorsky Aircraft employees are eligible for the UTC Employees Scholar Program. Under this program, UTC pays 100 percent of the costs for employees, both in the Unites States and internationally, who go back to school. That includes registration, tuition, fees, and books. All paid up front. Employees can enroll in classes and obtain a degree in any field, whether or not it is related to their jobs. Students receive up to half of their classroom time as paid time off for studying, up to three hours per week. UTC further rewards its employee scholar when they graduate. Employees who attain a bachelor's or graduate degree will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $10,000.00. Those who attain an associate's degree will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $5000.00, and additionally will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $5000.00 if they go on to complete their bachelor's.
Flexible Work Arrangements
Sikorsky Aircraft has a flexible Work Hours Program or Flex-Time for eligible salaried employees. The work day is divided between core and flexible time. Employees may arrive for work within a specified time band and may take a lunch period from a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 90 minutes. Regardless of the flexible hours chosen, a normal eight hour day, five days a week is required. Due to the nature of some job assignments, not all salaried employees are eligible to participate in Flex-Time.
