Overview
In 1866 three brave Sisters from Lyons, France, answered the call of Bishop Claude Dubuis to minister to the “sick and infirm of every kind.” These first members of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word worked to fulfill this call by opening Texas’ first Catholic hospital, in Galveston, and three years later San Antonio’s first private hospital.

Since 1981, the Sisters’ ministry has been continued in the Clear Lake Area at CHRISTUS St. John Hospital. Our hospital has been serving the health care needs of the Clear Lake and Bay Area communities through our Mission–to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

CHRISTUS St. John, located on the shores of Clear Lake, across from the Johnson Space Center, offers surrounding communities the latest technology in medical care. With 135 acute care beds, more than 400 physicians on our medical staff and almost 700 associates, CHRISTUS St. John Hospital provides a broad spectrum of adult and pediatric medical, surgical and obstetrical care, as well as numerous ambulatory services.
