Overview
CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital is a part of CHRISTUS Health, one of the largest Catholic health systems in the country, employing more than 25,000 people with total assets of $3.4 billion. With a mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, CHRISTUS Health comprises over 40 hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as dozens of other health services in more than 70 communities in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Utah, as well as Monterrey and Saltillo, Mexico. CHRISTUS Health is headquartered in the greater Dallas Metropolitan area, with additional offices operating in both San Antonio and Houston to support the health system operations.

The hospital campus includes the W. P. Hebert Health and Wellness Center, a 65,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center, Minor Care Center, the Outpatient Surgery Center, and many medical office buildings.

The Mamie McFaddin Ward Cancer Treatment Center is adjacent to the main hospital building. The Cancer Center is the only facility in Jefferson County accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.

Dedicated to meeting health care needs throughout Southeast Texas, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth has undertaken an aggressive, three-phase expansion project.

The first phase was completed in June 2002, with the construction of a five-story parking garage on Calder Street between 14th and 15th Streets. The second expansion project began in November 2002, with the construction of a three-story Outpatient Treatment Center, 1200 vehicle parking garage, and five-story medical office building. The construction, medical equipment and furnishings for the project are estimated to cost $95 million. Completion is expected in the spring of 2004.

Phase three of CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth’s expansion plan, now in the planning stage, includes construction of a new West Tower on the main campus at the site of the existing parking garage at Calder and 14th Streets. The $95 million West Tower is proposed to expand the hospital emergency department to 40,000 square-feet and bring bed-capacity to 560.

Providing access to health education, primary care, tertiary care, urgent care, rehabilitation and emergency/trauma services are significant roles CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth fulfills to adhere to its community health mission.
