Human Interface Business Unit is looking for an Optical Packaging Engineer that will focus on advanced packaging technology development that will go into cutting edge consumer and automotive products. Working closely with Technology R&D and QA groups you will be responsible for doing proof of concept, feasibility and DOE to develop and optimize the packaging processes with maximized manufacturing yield, electrical and optical performance and package reliability. A thorough understanding of the complete system development, production, and testing process as well as making sound engineering decisions is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop processes, packages and modules for our optical sensors and human interface products.
- Develop new materials and assembly processes for Optical Sensors as well as Optical System in Package products that go into consumer, automotive and industrial products.
- Develop proven validation correlation of new techniques including opto-mechanical, and thermal stress simulations.
- Ability to apply well defined Design of Experiment and ability to analyze data and draw decisions.
- Conduct failure analysis, materials characterization, and surface and interface analysis.
- Conduct competitive benchmarking in package designs and materials.
- Design-for-manufacturability and design-for-reliability.
- Interact with internal and external customers, subcontractors and equipment and material suppliers.
- Ability to clearly communicate with customers and subcontractors.
- Must be able to work across functional boundaries to gather information needed to understand problems, ability to leverage teams and motivate a team environment.
- Create intellectual properties.
- Masters of Science and/or PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical engineering, Physics and Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of optical surface mount technologies and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of assembly and processes for flip chip, CSP, and SiP.
- Strong engineering background of optical properties of materials and optical system design.
- Familiar with package design rules and thermal/electrical modeling tools. A background in optical simulation tools a plus.
- Familiar with 3D CAD / Optics programs such as Solid Works, ACAD, ZMax, FRED.
- Good problem solving, effective communication and presentation skills.
- Strong fundamentals in the fields of Applied Physics and materials selection methodologies.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and statistical skills.
- Proven innovator with an ability to simplify concepts and present ideas clearly to a diverse audience.
- Organize information and data that can be used to draw usable engineering conclusion and decisions.
- Strong program management skills in achieving time to market on projects.
- Being able to operate in high priority-high pressure projects that have close deadlines.
- Hands-on knowledge of package reliability requirements, failure analysis techniques and assembly process issues.
- Thorough experience in the SMT process and rework methodologies preferred.
- FEA/mechanical modeling experience is a plus.
- 7-10 years of experience in optical packaging field. Experience in Consumer solutions is a plus.
