If you are an experienced psychiatrist who is looking for a new challenge with an established organization, join The GEO Group, Inc. team! We are looking for a Staff Psychiatrist to provide mental health care services in a correctional facility. In your role as a Staff Psychiatrist, you will evaluate and treat inmates demonstrating signs of mental illness and supervise the nursing staff providing mental health services. You will also be responsible for the overall psychiatric direction of the facility’s mental health program and will be supervised by the site’s Clinical Director as well as the Health Services Administrator.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
As a Staff Psychiatrist, you will you will serve as an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and as part of that team you will provide inmates with a range of mental health services. You will also determine whether patients require referral to other practitioners to ensure that all of their health care needs are being adequately met.
Your specific duties as a Staff Psychiatrist will include:

Supervising mental health activities while on duty

Evaluating all patients referred from other practitioners

Treating patients requiring psychiatric intervention
-
Referring patients to other practitioners as deemed necessary

Prescribing psychotropic medication as needed
-
Re-evaluating medication efficacy at regular intervals per local operating procedure

Providing emergency psychiatric care as required
-
Providing in-service education for all clinical staff
-
Providing mental health training for correctional staff as needed

Documenting services provided in the medical file

Participating in review of the quality of care process

Performing other duties as assigned
As a Staff Psychiatrist, you must be observant and proactive with strong organizational and time management skills. You must also have a high degree of engagement and a sense of ownership in the facility, the inmates, and the services you provide. It is also vital to your role as a Staff Psychiatrist that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and that you have the ability to function effectively as part of a team.
Specific requirements for the Staff Psychiatrist position include:

Degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy with specialty training in psychiatry

Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program
-
1 year clinical experience
-
Valid medical license in the state in which the correctional facility is located

Current DEA and DPS registration
-
Experience in a correctional setting preferred
