 Description

Under the supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrical, Instrument Technician must be able to assemble, install, construct, test, and maintain all electrical equipment and do line work; calibrate and service test equipment. Must be able to make simple sketches, diagrams, drawings, etc. Must have basic knowledge of California State Safety Code.


Equipment and Tools:

Ammeters, voltmeters, analyzers, scope, and other test equipment. Electrician’s tools such as hacksaw, connectors, bolt cutters, electric hand tools, pipe-threading machine, blow torch, acetylene torch, soldering equipment, drill press, press, screwdriver, pliers, micrometers, calipers, etc.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Must apply proper safety requirements to any job he/she maybe working on and be alert at all times and aware of potential dangers of working with electricity.
  2. Must perform such clean-up work as is necessary to keep his/her tools, equipment and working areas clean, orderly and safe.
  3. Must be able to read, understand and work from manufacturer’s technical instructions and electrical and pneumatic diagrams.
  4. Must have had sufficient electrical experience to enable him/her to install, maintain and repair switchgear at the transformer station and on incoming power distribution board and all other power distribution systems throughout the plant.
  5. Must be able to calibrate electric and pneumatic instruments as well as replace components of electric and pneumatic control systems and related equipment.
  6. Must be able to analyze problems in control systems.
  7. Must be able to perform such tests, using electrical testing equipment, as are necessary to repair and check repair of electrical equipment.
  8. Must be able to do major electrical equipment installations, including line work, throughout the plant.
  9. Must be completely familiar with all types of bearings and gear reductions as used on electrical equipment.
  10. Must be able to perform duties with minimum of supervision.
  11. Must be able to keep detailed maintenance records of all instrumentation.
  12. Must be able to work and program PLC controllers.
  13. Must have knowledge of conduit layout and related tools.
  14. Will be subject frequent overtime and callouts.
  15. Must have Journeyman level experience.
  16. Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds. Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, gloves and respirators.
  17. Familiarity with emission monitoring equipment such as analyzers, sensors, etc is preferred.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

Commensurate with education, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, area and volume.

Reasoning Skills:

Reasoning Ability:

Able to recognize potentially hazardous situations, understand instructions given by supervisor, possess common sense.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to accurately read and use a ruler/tape measure, and other measurement devices.
