Overview
The Sales Engineer is responsible for managing the technical and commercial aspects of the sales cycle. The job requires close coordination between Engineering, Operations, and the customer to meet the customer’s expectations in terms of new product development, technical support and sales support. The position reports to the Vice President/General Manager with a dotted line to the Engineering. The successful candidate must be able to function successfully in a matrix organization and have the ability to participate and communicate across all departments.
Job Summary
The Sales Engineer is responsible for the following:
- Working with customers and engineering in the development of new products.
- Create and present new product proposals to the customer and SBC management.
- Manage customer funded product developments programs.
- Creation and maintenance of Gantt charts.
- Facilitate Design reviews internal and external.
- Monitor program status and report back to SBC management relative to progress and risk factors.
- Work with all departments-engineering, operations, customer service and quality to meet customer expectations.
- Respond to customer questions via the phone and email.
- Implementing and maintaining active and passive list of current proposal workload.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of the engineering function and must be able to take a proactive approach in each of the following:
- Work closely with Customer Service, Engineering and Operations to implement company objectives
- Work closely with SBC Sales and customer’s engineering departments to develop new products and customers (regular travel – 1.5 weeks per month is required)
- Develop and manage entire program / project, to include: project plan, scope management, budget management, resource (i.e. internal, external, 3rd party resources) management, one-to-many projects within a program, time management (activities & task planning), communications, risk management, procurement, QA and testing, and program/project delivery.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal (i.e. day-to-day discussions, project team meetings, requirements / project meetings, etc.) and written (requirements and design specifications documents, weekly program/project status reports – both internal and external, day-to-day letters and e-mail correspondence, meeting notes, program/project summaries, technical documentation, etc.) form – as well as have an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
- Accurately track and report program/project task, activity, documentation, time tracking (i.e. weekly submission, detailed accounting of activities, follow up documentation, etc.)
- Accurately assess the risks of the program(s)/project(s).
- Accurately assess customer expectations and program potential for development of a business case.
- Foster the development of team members from a professional and technical level.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities from one or more projects within a program, and one or more programs.
- Ensure that the execution of the program/project plan is in adherence to the ISO SOP requirements.
