Director of Inpatient Acute Care Nursing Services

Description of Director of Inpatient Acute Care Nursing Services:

 

Role Summary:

 

This is a full time salaried position, primarily day shift, but must be flexible with hours and shifts in order to meet departmental needs of patients and staff.

 

The Director of Inpatient Acute Care Nursing Services is responsible for the management and supervision functions of assigned patient care area on a 24 hour basis and ensures effective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance with administration and clinical policies and procedures. This position reports to the Vice President of Patient Care Services/CNO.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in the development of clinical area’s strategic and operational plans
  • Actively support and promote a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that are collaborative, collegial, and evidence based
  • Serve as staff and patient advocate to ensure optimal patient care
  • Interface with patients and families to ensure that care is consistent with their expectations
  • Serve as a professional role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues through the change process
  • Maintain clinical competencies for assigned clinical areas
  • Maintain required unit records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes
  • Oversee various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions,  and other related activities
  • Coordinate the activities of nursing staff with other hospital personnel and physicians
  • Ensure budget and resource efficiency and satisfaction with patient care delivery

Qualifications:

 

  • An RN with a BS Degree is required. MS in Nursing or a related field is a plus
  • Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Ohio
  • CPR/BLS within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire

 

Experience:

 

  • Three years of experience in acute inpatient nursing
  • Previous leadership/management or supervision experience preferred

 

Skills:

 

  • Requires computer and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking skills and successfully manage a variety of tasks
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills
  • Requires strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Positive service oriented interpersonal, written and, verbal skills. Must demonstrate effective communication with individuals of all ages
  • Effectively adapts to change and works with others to do the same
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
