JOB SUMMARY

  

The Transportation Manager is responsible for leading a team of Class A Drivers, Driver Managers, a Safety/Compliance Manager, a Plant Liaison Manager, and Driver Supervisors.  the Transportation Manager also is responsible for dispatching and support help for a $10 million account that operates (24/7) client distribution centers and plant operations.  The Transportation Manager will be responsible for the overall direction of the department including recruiting, hiring, training, corrective actions, and associate evaluations for a staff of 60+.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  

  • Hands-on daily operations of the Transportation Department.  Routing, labor planning and scheduling ability to develop transportation strategies, strong analytical and problem solving skills, possesses the ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Lead and communicate goals; team objectives and priorities.
  • Measure and analyze key performance indicators; on-time moves tracking, driver errors and safety/damage controls.
  • Team member selection, hiring and training; reviews and retention of team members. Safety training.
  • Fleet and equipment maintenance; tracking against budget.
  • P&L/Budget control to include all departmental expenses (labor, equipment rental & repair, fuel and outside shipping costs)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Advanced leadership skills.
  • The ability to manage and react to day-to-day operational requirements in a professional and timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills along with the ability to provide clear and concise details regarding cause and effect, both verbally and written.


Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS    

  

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with proficiency in Transportation and Fleet Management.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Proven Track record of experience and successes that demonstrate the ability to manage a Transportation Department and achieve results through others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 10 years experience in a management role within a distribution environment.
  • A combination of education and extensive experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree.
