Naval Ship Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:

 

Participate on and/or lead a CVN warfare system design and integration team of designers, analysts and integrators in the product development, ship specifications, selection criteria development, topside design, and prioritization of capabilities for new construction and RCOH aircraft carriers. Function within a total ship design team environment and provide professional guidance and integrated products to the Government-led team. Develop and QA deliverable products to the team, prepare and present detailed plans of project product development and budget and manage required level of effort work plans. Assist in preparation and planning for testing, verification, modernization, logistics management and maintenance of all ship’s non-aviation electronic and ship self defense systems. Provide technical assistance and liaison during dockside availabilities. The successful candidate will serve as the principal liaison between Integrated Warfare Systems, CVN Ship Design Managers, and the Carrier Program Office. The candidate will also be involved in the planning and execution of underway operations such as Combat Systems Test and Sea Trials events.

 

Qualifications:

Candidate must have a minimum of eight years experience (Principal), or 15 to 20 years experience (Senior Principal) related to Naval Ship design and operations, preferably including experience as a Combat Systems Material Officer or Electronics Material Officer on aircraft carriers in the CVN-68 Class. The candidate should have a BS/BA degree, although educational requirements can be waived for 15 or more years of relevant Systems Analyst experience. The candidate should be experienced in Naval shipyard operations, production, and processes; Naval ship design requirements and analysis; and must have a high degree of knowledge in the DoD acquisition and U.S. Navy ship design process. Essential skills include a strong background with warfare system installation and lifecycle maintenance; Naval ship topside design criteria; analysis tools; design control methods; and operational combat system expertise. Good interpersonal skills and strong management skills of technical design products and leadership of assigned teams is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. The candidate must have an active DoD clearance.
