Description
The Systems Engineer will function as the subject matter expert and owner of all third-party components (hardware, webservers, operating systems, networks, peripherals, database engines, etc.) necessary to run the EMR applications. In addition, this role is responsible for validating the performance of each release of the software and handling second-tier support of performance-related issues that are outside the application domain.
The Systems Engineer will configure and optimize IIS, NLB, and SQL Server 2005. Analyze data from numerous performance tools and consolidate recommendations for overall system optimization and specific application performance tuning. Install, configure, and support the EMR application and infrastructure in the following environments: staging, documentation, quality assurance, performance testing, and demo. Provide on-demand research and identification of performance issues in production environments. Research and certify new operating systems and database platforms. Research and certify new hardware/software deployment options. Identify specific optimization action items and work with all necessary entities to implement these deliverables in production customer environments. Design and create technical documentation. Develop and document load-testing processes and procedures.
Maintain sales demo virtual machines and the processes for deploying to sales personnel. Create and execute performance benchmarking/scalability test scripts on each new release. Train and support client IT departments on optimized server configuration standards and best practices. Travel to client facilities to expose performance hurdles introduced by their specific environment, user demographics, and application workflows. Provide counsel on application technology, specifically as it’s implemented for the EMR applications, to development, quality assurance, sales, account management, and implementations. Identify performance bottlenecks in the application code and report findings to development and QA.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or related field, required. Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience as a systems engineer.
Expert with IIS, load balancing, and SQL Server. Experience with a wide variety of hardware configurations, state-of-the-art technologies, virtualization, and software deployment techniques. Experience with load-testing software, script development, and execution. A working knowledge of systems architecture and a familiarity with various technical environments, including networking, operating systems, and databases, is required. Experience with load-testing software is also required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must. Must possess ability to adapt to moving requirements and shifting priorities. Must be a self-motivated person with strong organizational skills and excellent troubleshooting skills.
