Description
The Senior Internal Auditor will have a direct reporting responsibility and accountability to the Director – Internal Audit, John Morrell Food Group. The Senior Internal Auditor will assist in executing a coordinated risk assessment and audit planning process, execute financial, operational and compliance audits, management requests as well as work closely with and partner with operating company management.
OBJECTIVES
WORK -
1. Timely address significant business and control risks in his/her Independent Operating Company (“IOC") through development of a complete audit universe and effective execution of an annual audit plan.
2. Assure adequate execution and completion of audit assignments in terms of both time and quality.
3. Follow-up on the adequate and effective implementation of prior audit recommendations.
4. Foster a quality-oriented environment stressing continuous improvement in everything we do.
5. Assure an effective and efficient cooperation with management and the external auditors.
6. Ability to work in a dynamic environment, requiring domestic travel up to 35%.
PEOPLE -
7. Maintain effective communications with IOC Management.
8. Maintain effective communications with Corporate Audit.
9. Develop and foster effective relationships with operating company personnel.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES:
1 - Risk assessment / audit planning
1.1 Assist in the development of a unique Audit Universe for his/her IOC covering all locations and business processes at the IOC level.
1.2 Assign a risk rating to each of the identified locations and business processes.
1.3 Assist in the preparation of a risk-oriented annual audit plan for his/her IOC; and to timely update the plan during the year whenever warranted by a changed risk environment or other events/conditions.
2 - Execution of audit assignments
2.1 Ensure appropriate execution during the consecutive stages of the audit assignment, ensuring that:
2.1.1 The Risk and Planning Memo is performed in such a way that it permits identifying potential risk areas for the business process(es) under review.
2.1.2 The detailed Audit Program is tailored to the potential risk areas for the business process(es) under review.
2.1.3 All steps of the Audit Program have been completed.
2.1.4 Adequate audit techniques are used - as appropriate - to measure transactions and to get facts.
2.1.5 Audit workpapers adequately support work done, results obtained and conclusions reached.
2.1.6 Audit reports are accurate, objective, clear, concise and constructive and are issued within the shortest possible delay after the end of the fieldwork.
3 - Follow-up prior audit recommendations
3.1 Assist in determining that adequate corrective action on reported audit findings is timely taken and is achieving the desired results.
4 - Quality
4.1 Implement Corporate Audit quality initiatives as may be issued from time to time.
5 - Co-operation with external auditors
5.1 Provide and maintain a co-operation program with the external auditors ensuring adequate audit coverage, avoiding duplication of work and making use of each other’s work to the maximum extent possible.
6 - Communications (External)
6.1 Maintain a good working relationship with the various audit customers in his/her IOC enabling being « in the information loop » regarding key business and control issues possibly impacting the current audit plan.
6.2 Ensure that the objectives and the scope of each audit assignment are reviewed with the pertinent auditee management prior to starting the job.
6.3 Ensure that the auditees are regularly informed of the audit findings and suggested recommendations during the course of the audit.
6.4 Ensure that the audit results and conclusions are adequately communicated at the end of the audit.
7 - Communications (Internal)
7.1 Maintain timely and complete communications with the Director – Internal Audit, John Morrell Food Group
Requirements
EDUCATION
University Degree – can be in diverse areas (Accountancy, Finance or Economics)
Specialization Programs : one or more of the following desired : Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certification in Control Self-Assessment, Certified Information Systems Auditor, MBA
EXPERIENCE
5+ years of experience in the profession of Auditing and Business Risk Management (obtained through a blend of public accounting and/or industry experience).
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
Languages : Fluent in English.
Competencies : Financial Auditing, Operational Auditing, Management Consulting, Information Systems Auditing, In-depth knowledge of Internal Control Techniques, Sarbanes-Oxley and related regulatory matters, People Management.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE
Extensive use and knowledge of ACL software
