Description

 

(1) Provide direct and/or services, including functional evaluation and treatment procedures involving physical, sensory, manual, creative and recreational or play activities to maintain or improve motor functioning; (2) evaluate, plan, implement and re-evaluate an appropriate program for students requiring occupational therapy treatment; (3) maintain or improve motor functioning such as normal developmental motor patterns, range of motion, muscle strength, gross and fine motor coordination and activity tolerance; (4) improve level of functioning in the areas of visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic perception and cognitive-perceptual-motor integration skills; (5) improve psycho-social development by aiding ego development, developing social interaction skills, and helping the student discover constructive alternatives; (6) assist the student to achieve a maximum level of independence in toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, grooming and mobility; (7) assist the student to acquire homemaking and vocational skills and appropriate work habits through prevocational activities; (8) instruct the student and/or teacher in the use of functional and adaptive equipment and devices; (9) demonstrate techniques and theories of occupational therapy practice; (10) maintain clinical service notes on each student as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual; (11)  maintain Medicaid records in compliance with guidelines;  (12) participate in educational planning and placement committees; (13) stress follow-through of occupational therapy goals in the classroom setting and support classroom goals in the therapy treatment program; (14) maintain a close working relationship with parents for follow-through of occupational therapy treatment goals in the home; (15) provide training to the appropriate persons regarding effective methods to aid the mainstreamed disabled student upon request; (16) provide adaptive equipment and devices and/or orthotics for the student and/or the classroom; (17) attend outside clinic and agency meetings as appropriate; (18) attend staff development and professional seminars and meetings to upgrade or maintain professional skills; (19) perform all other duties and responsibilities designated by the Satellite Program Coordinator and/or lead therapist;  and (20) supervise COTA’s in accordance with state guidelines.

Requirements

 

(1) Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited occupational therapy program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association and the American Medical Association;
(2) registered with the National Occupational Therapy Association;
(3) valid South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy license; and
(4) such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Administration may find appropriate and acceptable
