Job Description

Medical Record Coder is responsible for timely review of patient records in order to identify an appropriate selection of codes which will accurately reflect the reason for admission, extent of care received, and level of severity of illness.  Coder is further responsible for insuring that all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected and included in the patient's demographic record.  Certified for Physician practices only. Must have coding certification and have at least 2 years of experience in Medical Coding and Billing.

Job Requirements

Regulatory Requirements:

·                    High School graduate or equivalent.

·                    1 or more years of previous hospital experience as a Coder preferred.

·                    Knowledge of diagnoses/procedures in accordance with ICD-9-CM coding principles for both acute and skilled nursing facilities.

·                    Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.

Language Skills:

·                    Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

·                    Additional languages preferred.

Skills:

·                    Basic computer knowledge.
