Description
Design Engineer - ACA
AFL Telecommunications, a leading global fiber optics telecommunications company, has an immediate opening for a Design Engineer. This individual will be recognized as one of the key technical support contacts for ACA’s full product line with emphasis on compression accessories.
This position will be a pivotal asset for Product Management through technical support and product development involving engineering, designs, or modification of products with performance documented from extensive lab testing. Assignments are broad and complex in nature and scope, which requires considerable knowledge of engineering principles. Moderate travel will be required to assist the sales team with opportunities ranging from new product development, investigative product performance issues, conducting technical presentations, and addressing product qualification requirements
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Designs products from dimensions and specifications supplied by customers, marketing, and the R&D team, and produces documented lab performance testing

Provide full technical support and advice to internal and external customers in designated area through direct interface.

Perform product application demonstrations and technical presentations for internal and external customers

Develops knowledge of relevant new technologies, materials, equipment, and market trends and competitive products through literature, seminars, courses, etc.

Interaction with the Sales Team in preparation of tender responses (drawing approval, pricing strategy, and product delivery)

Participate on National and International Committees through committee interaction and/or presentation of technical papers

Provides material and process specifications, along with standards required for manufacture or purchase of parts.

Supplies sketches and dimensions to drafting and design groups in order to make or tool the product

Evaluated functional performance of new products prior to production and works on projects that will improve quality through design changes that enhances production cost

Utilizes computer aided engineering tools such as AutoCAD to produce product and tooling drawings

Initiates and/’or scrutinizes Engineering Change Notices when required to improve manufacturing or meet customer requirements

Determines necessary corrective action when a failure occurs in design, including material and mechanical problems.
Requirements
Requirements:
- BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 3 to 5 years of experience in product design involving developing 3D model concepts, tooling and production drawings, along with assistance in producing final production parts
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Overhead Transmission Line, Light Rail Accessories or Substation Design is preferred
- Proficiency in Auto Cad is a must.
- Demonstrates Considerable Knowledge of Engineering Principals
- Proficiency in computer software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- 10% travel required
