The Program Chair’s main function is to assist the Dean of Education in the management of all areas of their specific education department, including instructors, student assistants, curriculum, retention, expenses, enforcement of policies and procedures, scheduling of classes, and accreditation standards in order to maintain quality education which meets state and federal requirements and company guidelines. 

  • Conduct spot checks on classrooms within the department, be visible to instructors and students
  • Teach classes for absent instructors, as necessary.  May be required to work extra hours to include evenings, as necessary, and as directed by the DOE
  • Enforcement of all school policies and procedures
  • Assist the Dean of Education and Faculty Development Coordinator in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and training of instructors in the Department.
  • Schedule instructors to maximize student/instructor ratio and classroom utilization
  • Provide assistance in the development, implementation and administration of instructor training programs needed for staff development, to include classroom instruction, assessment, implementation of new curriculum, and cross-training
  • Provide assistance in the development of course lesson plans, syllabi, and assure industry-driven curriculum and curriculum standardization within the department, as directed by the Director of Education
  • Provide assistance with educational standardization, quality, and meeting of course objectives within the department
  • Document in writing all student and instructor problems
  • Submit Student Resolution forms that are detailed and complete, and communicate student issues to the Dean of Education
  • Review student evaluations.  Respond to evaluations of concern, and forward to Dean of Education.
  • Motivate all instructors to be active in student retention efforts with good customer service, and follow the school’s retention policies
  • Assist the Dean of Education in developing and monitoring the grading system, testing procedures, lab equipment, textbooks, class size, and student/staff morale
  • Assist in management of department expenses within limitations of the budget, in accordance with the Dean of Education.
  • Shares responsibility with the Dean of Education for the development and supervision of an inventory control system and cost-effectiveness program to control expenses within the department
  • Provides assistance to the Dean of Education conducting performance reviews, evaluations, and recommendation of merit raise/promotions for department personnel in accordance with school policy
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with accrediting policies in the areas of instruction, curriculum, student satisfactory academics, and attendance
  • Assist the Dean of Education with special projects or functions to facilitate the implementation of new programs or courses required by changes in technology taking place in the industry
  • Establish clear communication with the Department by using correct policy, procedures, and guidelines
  • Make general decisions within the department, keeping open communication within the Department
  • Recommend and update current curriculum, in accordance with the Dean of Education
  • Delegate certain administrative responsibilities to instructors, when necessary
  • Enact student suspensions, when necessary
  • The program director must demonstrate continuing professional development related to their role and responsibilities, and the health information management profession.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have knowledge of educational measurement
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • The program director of the Health Information Management educational program must be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous program review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program


    Experience Required

 

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a field directly related to the program 
  • Management experience required
  • A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, Master’s Degree or higher preferred.
  • Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator
