HIM Consultant

J. A. Thomas & Associates (JATA), a nationally recognized expert in healthcare compliance and documentation currently has openings for full time HIM Consultants. JATA has developed a Compliant Documentation Management Program® (CDMP) to educate healthcare systems in a concurrent clinical approach to improving documentation, ensuring compliance and managing DRG assignments. Over 450 client hospitals and 30,000 physicians have realized success utilizing CDMP®.

 

The HIM Consultant position will offer the ideal candidate the opportunity to:

  • Provides training and education sessions for clients to support compliance within the CDMP® program to include but not limited to classroom and web-based training
  • Works on team projects in collaboration with clinical consultants to resolve coding and documentation educational issues in the assessment, implementation and follow-up phases of CDMP® program
  • Keeps updated on health information management national trends within healthcare delivery systems
  • Keeps updated in changes within legislation and accreditation standards that affect health information management
  • Assists with research presentations on topics related to health information management
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association. A competitive salary and benefit package
Requirements

HIM Consultant Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in HIM or HIM related field
  • RHIA, or RHIT, and CCS Certification required
  • Minimum 5 years progressive coding, auditing and healthcare reimbursement methodologies; consulting experience is highly desired
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding principles and coding clinic guidelines, and DRG’s ; CPT knowledge desirable
  • Knowledge of federal, state and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing
  • Knowledge of encoder software applications
  • Strong computer skills to include, MS office suite applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Written and oral communication skills, including presentations
  • Active member of the American Health Information Management Association
