Description:

Lead and participate in the design and development of door systems in Cab Engineering. Apply engineering and CAD principles to design vehicles that are safe, reliable, serviceable and competitive. Provide solutions to production problems related to product design for door structure, glass, sealing systems and mechanisms.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Participate in development of solutions for door systems and cost reduction initiatives.
• Analyze and provide creative, technically-feasible solutions to problems encountered in validation and production. Promptly resolve plant build issues.
• Interface and coordinate with suppliers, Purchasing, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, Marketing, and other departments in the product development and testing phases.
• Prioritize assignments consistent with business goals and successfully implement projects on time and within budget. Proactively inform management of project issues, delays and risks.
• Generate and implement ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, processes as well as product cost and quality.
• Lead other designers and suppliers in the design and development of door components and systems.
• Provide creative, technically-feasible designs for assigned area that satisfy customer needs while adhering to Engineering standards and strategic directions.
• Use CATIA and other design tools to create and maintain 3D part and stamping designs, detailed 2D part/ assembly drawings, GD&T, packaging studies, and installation diagrams.
• Identify proper materials, tolerances, finishes, fasteners and production methods for new designs.
• Interface with Compliance & Regulatory Affairs to ensure that designs meet domestic and export government regulations, restrictions and codes.
• Interface with Engineering Analysis to determine the most effective and economic design and materials to be used in designs.
• Develop and maintain Engineering documentation.
• Process releases using the Engineering Documentation and Release System.
Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Science degree required
• Minimum 4 years of experience required
• Experience with stampings, sealing systems, glazing and/or mechanisms required
• Demonstrated CAD expertise (Catia V5) required
• Demonstrated strong verbal & written skills required
• Experience leading & mentoring others in identifying/solving the root cause of complex problems required
• Experience leading projects required
• Experience preparing & giving presentations to small groups required
• Experience leading implementation of cross-functional improvement initiatives required
• Understanding of engineering & upstream/downstream processes required
• BSME, Advanced technical/business degree preferred
• 6+ years of experience preferred
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Knowledge of vehicle assembly plant process preferred
• Ability to resolve CWOs, document BOMs, and create design charts preferred
