Job Description 

Cook Assistant, Partial Year Schedule (PYS) – this Vanderbilt Dining position is a seasonal position with benefit options. The Partial Year Schedule (10 months) runs approximately August 1st until May 31st. Several positions are available. Minimum Requirements:


This position requires a high school diploma or GED and 6 months cooking experience. Successful candidates must be able to lift 40 lbs.



Preferred Experience:


Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment is preferred.


Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of foods as assigned by the cook, using standardized recipes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the cook, such as deep fat frying and grill cooking.
  • Assist in the weighing, measuring of ingredients, and clean and slice vegetable and meats.
  • Transport foods from dry and refrigerated storage to kitchen as needed.
  • Taste all prepared foods for quality prior to panning.
  • Assist in the cleaning of the cooking area and equipment to include the vent hood area, the interior kitchen refrigerators and freezer units.
  • Maintain quality and sanitary standards of State and City Health Departments and Vanderbilt University Dining Service codes.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

    Additional Information:

    Shift varies.

     

    Salary range $10.20 - $11.41; Salary is dependent upon years of education and experience.

     

    Experience may be substituted for education: basic qualification requirement on a 2:1 basis (2 years of experience for each year of education required, but not attained).

    Background screens will be performed and education will be verified prior to employment. Please be prepared to provide required information and/or documentation.
