The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at The University of Arizona is seeking applicants for a full-time Staff Scientist position with responsibility for managing an ICP-MS analytical facility. Candidates with experience in analytical chemistry, cosmochemistry, and geochemistry are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Current research in this facility involves the study of bulk elemental abundances in meteorites, lunar materials, and terrestrial materials and in situ analyses of individual phases in these samples using laser ablation sample introduction.

Requirements
Staff Scientist will oversee the day to day operations of a laboratory facility that houses a ThermoFinnigan Element2 ICP-MS, a Cetac LSX-213 laser ablation system, and a class-100 cleanroom. Successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a vibrant cosmochemical research program by developing analytical protocols, designing research projects, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and assisting in proposal preparation. Other duties include maintenance and troubleshooting of the ICP-MS and the laser ablation system, wet chemistry and in situ analysis of a wide variety of samples, training new users, assisting users in obtaining high-quality data, and managing the laboratory's finances.
Master's or Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, geochemistry, cosmochemistry, or a closely related field. Experience in ICP-MS as well as laser ablation and wet-chemistry techniques. Strong analytical skills and experience with 1) analytical method development, 2) data reduction and analysis; and 3) applications to Earth or Planetary Science problems. Knowledge of Element2 hardware, training in analytical chemistry, and experience with laboratory practices in a clean environment is preferred.
