Describe the Ideal candidate's strength and experiences:

The technical support engineer is a highly technical role, providing support for M-series, T-series and MX-series routers and will report to the Service Delivery Manager. This engineer will work with very knowledgeable teams within Service Provider customers, supporting their software and hardware certification efforts.  This position may require extended work hours.

Responsibilities:

The Lab TAC technical support to the Customer may require the engineer to:

o Troubleshoot complicated hardware and software issues, replicate customer environments and network problems in the lab.

o Provide technical expertise and guidance during testing, deployment and eventually operational phases of networks.

o Manage critical customer issues and facilitate communication between customers, escalation, and engineering.

o Be a customer advocate for timely resolution of issues and for problem reproduction and escalation.

o Document and reproduce customer related networking problems, and if necessary coordinate fixes by engineering department.

o Develop technical specialties and prepare technology white papers on these areas.

o Participate in cross functional tasks such as new product development projects, support readiness teams, KB and other documentation activities.

o Help improve processes and tools.

Requirements

 

  

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate the following credentials:

o 3-4 years of experience supporting large IP networks.

o Routing and routing-protocol experience required, with strong transferable skills in other networking disciplines.

o Strong IGP and BGP skills required. Experience in supporting large scale ISP customers is a strong plus.

o Experience with IS-IS, MPLS, and various WAN protocols, and knowledge of C and scripting are pluses.

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills required

o Experience in fault isolation logic and techniques.

o Extensive lab skills. Experience with various lab testing tools.

o Requires B.S. in electrical engineering or computer science

These skills should include:

 

 

o TCP/IP fundamentals

o IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles

o Routing protocol operation and interaction (OSPF, BGP-4, Class of Service, and MVPN)

o Routing protocol (IGP and BGP) design principles and scaling techniques

o VPN’s and the associated tunneling technologies (L2TP, MPLS, etc.)

o A detailed understanding of Layer 2 protocols and technologies such as: DS0 – DS3, OC3 – OC768, E1 – E3, PPP, MLP, Ethernet

o Ability to effectively manage multiple activities or projects and work under pressure.

o Team Player

o Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of CISCO, Juniper Networks
