Job Description

Job Summary:
Support the Engineering Department's objectives with regards to assessing, developing, and implementing process changes to improve quality, reduce cost, and enhance production efficiency. Working within an IPT environment, continuously improve manufacturing processes, develop efficient and productive facility layouts, and resolve tooling related issues. Solve composite process related issues through existing methods or by developing new composite processes. Integrate LEAN and 6S principles into all aspects of tasks and responsibilities. The individual will investigate issues, perform root cause analysis, and initiate corrective actions as required to support Program requirements.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
Analyze customer's Digital Product Definitions, drawings, specifications, and P.O. requirements for implementation into the composite manufacturing process and provide technical support for / lead engineering efforts with the Manufacturing Department and the customer.
Develop and conduct research studies regarding process improvement and cost reduction.
Prepare fabrication strategy and instructions with detailed illustration, which prescribe a logical sequence of action in clear and concise language that, can be used both by the Manufacturing personnel for production and the customer for hardware acceptance.
Work with cure department, on understanding ways to optimize your autoclave cure, to better your cycleime, and fix tooling or process issues.
Create BOM's (Bill of Materials) needed and calculating quantities to support purchasing.
Support an IPT (Integrated Product Team) through the qualification requirement, to implement a new manufacturing process. (Thermal Profile Plan (TTP), NDI standards, Pre Part Verification Plan (PPV), First Part Qualification (FPQ).
Work with the machining and programming groups to support and troubleshoot 5-axis, router or water-jet related manufacturing bottlenecks. 

Job Requirements

Keys:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in resolving engineering, planning, tooling, assembly, and fabrication problems.  Aerospace composite fabrication is required.
Must be hands-on in the manufacturing floor.
Must have experience developing manufacturing concepts, plans, and tool concepts. A thorough understanding of tool design, tool fabrication, and tool inspection as well as tool family relationship and development.
Working knowledge of with hand lamination, hot drape forming, and related fabrication techniques for carbon/epoxy prepregs.
Working knowledge with autoclave curing, writing autoclave cure programs, cure program inspection, and related specification review.
Working knowledge with paperwork associated with production parts, preferably civil aviation experience.
Ability to troubleshoot process development trials. Ability to create a Bill of Materials. Support integration of all elements of production, including blueprints, specifications, tooling, work instructions, equipment, training, inspection, methods and materials. Assess, develop, and implement changes to improve quality, reduce cost, and maintain production commitments.
Ability to work with manufacturing documentation to facilitate all aspects of daily production operations
Ability to push work through, and oversee all aspects of fabrication, machining, painting, inspection, NDI, marking, packaging, containerizing, and assembling documentation packages. 
Understand drawing and Technical Specification requirements and coordinate the implementation of requirements through the Composite Manufacturing process. This requires creativity to resolve complex issues. The Manufacturing Engineer acts as a technical authority and may have overall project responsibility. Define manufacturing approach: tool function, laminating development, bagging techniques, autoclave curing, trimming, and inspection.
Individual must be highly motivated self starter and exhibit the ability/willingness to make decisions at the appropriate level while working well in a team environment and bringing assignments to closure.
