Sr. Food Scientist

Job Summary:

 

Independently researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports to result in new/improved products, cost savings and unique technologies providing business advantages. Design and implement all technical aspects of projects to ensure that all projects proceed according to plan. Selects appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing. Assesses feasibility of new ideas and provides plan for development. Leads and directs the work of other Scientists.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and develop research programs to drive cost optimization through formulation and processing efficiencies, create new prototypes for product development initiatives and to identify and approve potential ingredient and manufacturing suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for competitive market advantage.
  • Contribute significantly, directly, and continually to the attainment of company's business results through the generation and application of advanced, specialized knowledge.
  • Demonstrate leadership and proactive attitudes in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues.
  • Demonstrate ability to propose and persuade new research direction to address the business needs of the corporation.
  • Record significant contributions to company's strategies/business objectives by generating and applying technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.
  • Supervise assigned personnel with a demonstrated ability to inspire subordinates through strong leadership skills and participation in their development plans.
  • Through cross collaboration with R&D groups and other functions, prepare plans and lead their execution against broad technical problems.
  • Continually increase level of expertise in area of specialization to augment company's technical leadership position.
  • Identify and develop research programs to exploit an emerging technology for significant business results.
Requirements

Minimum Requirements for Sr. Food Scientist:

 

  • BS in Food Science or related field plus a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience required, or MS in Food Science or related field plus 3-5 years relevant work experience, or PhD in Food Science or related field plus 1-3 years relevant work experience preferred.
  • Project management required, experience w/ product development from concept to commercialization.
  • Experience with frozen foods.
  • Experience working with culinary staff/chef is preferred.
  • People management required.
  • Frequent travel including flying to all parts of the U.S., possibly overseas, and driving a company or rental automobile 4 to 6 hours as needed.
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and equipment for periodic extended workdays.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis
