Description

Job Summary:

Develop a resident-centered leisure activity plan based on resident assessments of past and present interests and abilities in keeping with their changing needs. Plan and implement a comprehensive activity program that meets individual needs and provides opportunities for social involvement, enhancing dignity, creativity, and self worth.

 

Accountability:

Reports to and receives direction from the Assisted Living Manager.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and implement activity program that reflects the statement of purpose, goals and objectives of the Assisted Living activity department.

 

Possess knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and Cedar Crest administration policies.

 

Assess new residents using initial activity assessment and Minimum Data Set (MDS), if applicable, and reassess as required.

 

Assist residents in determining their activity needs, goals, and objectives by participating with interdisciplinary care plan team at staffing meetings.

 

Provide a regular system of evaluation of activities and total program in each service center.

 

Develop and maintain good relationships with residents, encouraging regular participation in a variety of activities

 

Provide activity to every resident using small groups, large groups and/or one-one activity

 

Assist with transportation of residents to and from the activity area for activities

 

Supervise volunteers and assign workloads in the activity program, coordinating with the Assisted Living Manager

 

Plan and distribute weekly or monthly calendar and post in designated areas

 

Assist in preparing a monthly Assisted Living activity schedule and post in designated areas

 

Attend designated in-service training programs and disaster drills

 

Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Minimum two years post high school course work in Therapeutic Recreation or related field or previous experience equivalency required.

Assessment and evaluation experience preferred.

Experience working with older adults required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to work as part of a team.

 

Working Conditions

Works in a sell lighted & ventilated office, at a desk provide for planning and management procedures. Activities on the units, various sites in the common areas, outside, and in the community.

 

Physical/Mental Demands Analysis:

1.                  Standing/Sitting- Required to stand and sit about 50% of day

2.                  Lifting/Carrying-  Ability to lift and carry 25# occasionally

3.                  Walking/Climbing- Ability to walk entire facility. Climbing up and down step ladder and steps as required.

4.                  Bending/Reaching- Ability to bend to pick up items at floor level. Ability to reach overhead

5.                  Hand Tasks- Ability to grasp materials. Finger dexterity for writing and crafts, etc

6.                  Mental Capacity- Ability to comprehend at a 12th grade level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good organizational skills. Ability to work under occasional pressure. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding management information. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to comprehend written and verbal directions. Creative capabilities.

Requirements The ideal candidate will possess the following education: Certified Activity Director/Music Therapist/Recreational Therapist.  We are also looking for someone that has a minimum of 2 years experience working with older adults in a recreational setting; experience working with dementia population preferred along with a background in Assisted Living.
