Description

Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa is a dynamic, non-profit organization providing healthcare, outreach and education to Central Iowan's in need has an immediate opening for a Maternal Child Health Manager. The Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily operational activities of Visiting Nurse Services staff providing maternal, child, outreach and dental health services in the community.

 

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from accredited school of nursing. Masters preparation in nursing, health care administration, or business strongly preferred. Must have license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Minimum of five years experience as registered nurse. A minimum of two years community health and management experience.  
  2. Knowledge of public health professional nursing principles and practices.   
  3. Knowledge and experience in management, including supervision, performance appraisals and budget development. 
  4. Ability to supervise and work with a multi-disciplinary staff (nursing and non-nursing positions) and have ability to work as a team member of several multi-disciplinary teams.  
  5. Ability to lead people through rapid change. 
  6. Ability to plan, organize and evaluate community health services. 
  7. Ability to exercise independent judgement and work with minimal supervision. 
  8. Ability to meet and communicate effectively with personnel from other agencies, the public, medical staff, and the community.
  9. Knowledge of principles and methods involved in planning and directing programs and services.  Ability to multi-task and commit to deadlines. 
  10. Ability to express self well both orally and in writing using the English language.  Must be able to present and articulate in professional manner. 
  11.  Detail oriented as it relates to the audit processes, billing and quality improvement issues. 
  12. Ability to comply with accepted professional standards and practice. 
  13. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with State and/or organization requirements and is in good working order. 
  14. Maintains CPR certification/verification. 
  15. Ability to accept and effectively work with diverse populations. 
  16. Ability to physically carry out the various aspects of the position.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

1.   Provides direction for the delivery of community health services. Directs and supports programs team leaders to carry out the daily operations for each program and supervision of staff.

 

2.  Conducts ongoing review of clinical practice and documentation of care produced to assure compliance with Visiting Nurse Services’ standards and regulatory requirements. Communicates findings and recommendations to the President. Facilitates data-driven decisions for program improvement and assures the completion of required program reports.

 

3.  Participates in the development of agency budgets and implements approved budget for areas of responsibility. Assists with the grant application processes and other program-related opportunities.

 

4.  Oversees and directs team leaders and team leaders to ensure adequate staffing levels and maintains a high quality work force. This includes convening regular staff meetings that address program issues and strategic planning.  Participates, as needed, in recruitment and terminations, monitoring staff performance, and conducting regular performance assessments including the annual performance appraisal process.

 

5. Ensures staff and programs stay abreast of applicable changes in health care industry impacting programs and practices. Assists in orientation of in-service programs and training for agency personnel as needed or required. Provides professional guidance to staff regarding agency policies and procedures.

 

6.   Monitors on an on-going basis national, state, and other identified health indictors that reflect the health of the Polk County community.  Utilizing the data, tailor programs to improve the health of the community

 

7.   Acts as a member of the VNS management team and supports management team as necessary.
