Employee Status: Non-Exempt
I. Basic Function
The Packing Supervisor is responsible for the entire operation of the packaging department, working in cooperation with all other supervisory personnel.
II. Organizational Relationships
A. Responsible to Shift Manager.
B. Responsible forall packaging activity.
III. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
A. Facilitate the implementation of systems to assure that product is packaged in a safe and sanitary manner in accordance with all company policies:
1. G.M.P. policies and rules.
2. H.A.C.C.P.
3. Safety policies and programs.
4. Product quality standards.
5. All other plant rules and policies.
B. Acquire a strong understanding of the bagel packaging process, participating in a constant cooperative effort to improve process for quality and efficiency.
C. Focus on the reduction of downtime, scrap, and cripples in relation to all equipment, taking the responsibility to initiate corrective actions. Key area of focus is managing packaging by customer.
D. Supervise the line activities providing necessary support, decision-making and problem solving
techniques.
E. Account for effective labor utilization and materials management.
F. Participate in ongoing training to improve the understanding and skill level of all new and existing employees. Monitoring and inspection of all new and existing procedures.
G. Communicate regularly with line personnel and production management.
H. Cultivate working relationships with all support groups to production. This involves open communication
with all departments: maintenance, quality assurance, sanitation, human resources, and shipping and
receiving.
I. Manage labor relations through the application of consistent practices and the administration of corrective action while addressing employee grievances.
J. Participate in personnel hiring and scheduling decisions, and performance reviews.
K. Acquire a strong understanding of the theory as well as, practical operation of all
packaging equipment.
L. Manage the completion of accurate production record keeping.
M. Manage the correct labeling, coding, and stacking of all finished product.
IV. Methods of Accountability
A. Through a review of the performance of above duties and responsibilities.
B. Through various oral and written communications to the Shift Manager.
C. Through an analysis of all production records.
V. Standards of Performance
A. Quality of all aspects of finished product.
B. Level of efficiency attained in production.
C. Training and development effectiveness of all shift employees in accordance with all company
procedures.
D. Communication and cooperation with all members of the management team.
E. Enforcement of all company policies.
Requirements
VII Working Environment and Conditions
A. Hearing protection may be required.
B. Eye protection may be required.
C. A sometime hot/humid environment, greater than 90°.
