INTRODUCTION:
The State Honor Guard (HG) Coordinator manages all aspects of providing Army National Guard Honor Guard ceremonies for deceased veterans within their perspective state. The position is located within the state JFHQ but may be designated to an alternate geographic area within the state with concurrence of the National Guard Bureau. The National Guard Bureau, through the contract program manager, will provide general and technical guidance.
MAJOR DUTIES:
The State Funeral Honor Coordinator develops plans, coordinates, and executes statewide operations for the State Honor Guard Program.

Develop and coordinate training programs and exercises relating to performance and execution of HG ceremonies.

Receive requests for Honor Guard support, verify eligibility, and assign appropriate honor ceremony providers.

Ensure all Honor Guard support exceeds the minimum standards outlined in regulation, policy guidance, and standard operating procedures. Becomes familiar with and complies with all NGB and National guidelines and regulations relating to the HG program.

Use NGB authorized systems/databases to identify and track the level of support and costs associated with each Ceremony provided.

Certify, evaluate, and maintain accurate records relating to the performance of veterans’ organization honor teams within the state and make recommendation on involvement within the ARNG program.

Draft, review, revise state program policies and standard operating procedures in conjunction with the ARNG program manager and participate in the evaluation and revision of these policies as required.

Prepare and conduct program briefings and/or presentations for state and national groups and civic organizations as permitted. Communicate the program benefits to all interested parties.

Process travel claims in the AFCOS system to issue travel orders and execute them.
Assist in the development of the annual budget for the Honor Guard Program as directed.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
This will be a TEMPORARY HIRE. The date range for this employment opportunity will be from January 2010 through August 2010. Extensions to the period of hire are not anticipated at this time.
Requirements
- Current or Former US military service member with honorable discharge in grade of senior NCO, WO, or Officer.

Ability to pass any necessary background investigation.

Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-Point.

Thorough (demonstrated) knowledge of military drill and ceremony regulations.

Possess a valid state driver’s license.
-
Ability to travel in the performance of assigned duties.
-
Embody the Army Values and highest professional standards as demonstrated by past military performance.
Required Education:

Two years college required, four year degree desired, or equivalent experience

Successful military service school completion commensurate with military rank upon discharge or retirement
