Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Complex Business Development Officer (CBDO) reports to the Regional Business Development Officer and Complex Manager.  Responsibilities of the position include assisting the Complex Manager and Regional Business Development Officer to achieve the Region’s Challenge Goals and supporting all efforts that drive revenue and asset growth. The CBDO is responsible for driving the wealth management process, including coordinating sales & marketing efforts, Complex recruiting efforts, diversity, and supporting financial advisors with their team building and practice management efforts.

  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Product/Business Knowledge
• Thorough understanding of the Firm’s resources, products and its strategic partners
• Provide resources, solutions and direction in order to drive sales within the Complex
• Direct sales force to the appropriate resources to make the sales process more efficient
• Effectively apply product/business knowledge to recruiting efforts

• Understand and assist recruits to meet client needs, such as by “translating” competitor offerings into Morgan Stanley Smith Barney products

Sales/Marketing
• Drive sales in the Complex
• Seek opportunities to grow business and drive sales within the Complex by capitalizing on Firm initiatives

• Build strong relationships with corporate departments and strategic partners to achieve the marketing objectives of the Complex
• Drive corporate marketing initiatives, including emphasizing Client Segmentation through the use of marketing initiatives (i.e., Householding and Tiered-Benefits) to increase market share in Gold and Platinum households
• Coordinate Complex Platinum/Gold events & seminars
• Develop and update Local Market Plan

FA Recruiting
• Partner with and provide tools and support to Complex/Branch Managers to develop recruiting strategy
• Assist Complex/Branch Managers to close deals and smoothly transition recruits into Morgan Stanley Smith Barney
• Coordinate Complex efforts to meet challenge recruit efforts

Team Building
• Engage Complex/Branch Managers in the strategy and implementation of all Region initiatives, including sales, hiring, recruitment, diversity, and community outreach
• Assist in developing FA partnerships, teams, Wealth Management Advisors, etc., to realize the full potential of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Financial Advisors

• Hire and manage Financial Advisors in the Complex

 

Job Requirement

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required [or equivalent education or experience

• At least 4 years of experience as a Financial Advisor or comparable product area experience

 

Licenses and Registrations
• Active Series 7, 8 (or 9 and 10), and 63, 65 (or 66) and 3 registrations

  

Skills

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to interact with senior management team, Financial Advisors, clients and corporate and field personnel as needed

• Ability to own projects at a Complex level

• Ability to organize and prioritize work, meet deadlines, and complete projects

 

Reports to:

• Dual direct reporting to: Regional Business Development Officer and Complex Manager.
