About the Center:
The San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. founded in 1970, is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to improving the mental health of individuals and families within the community. Primary emphasis is placed on providing services to children, adolescents and transitional age youth with serious emotional disorders, and services for adults and older adults with severe and persistent mental illness. The Center is committed to treating all consumers with dignity and enhancing their quality of life.
About the Program:
Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT) is an exciting collaborative effort between the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the Department of Mental Health (DMH) and other community mental health providers. This program is designed to ensure the immediate and comprehensive assessment of children and youth entering an out-of-home placement. The "multidisciplinary" aspect of these assessments is to ensure that all (mental health, medical, academic, etc..) child/family needs are assessed when a child/youth enters a foster care situation. The information gathered in these assessments will assist the courts in determining what services are most needed by the child(ren) while in placement and for aftercare/reunification planning as well as the appropriateness of the placement.
