Description
Accounting Assistant
Position Purpose:
This position reports to the Controller and works closely with both the Accounting and Support Service areas of the Finance department. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for processing accounts payable, supply distribution/stocking, daily/weekly ATM processing, as well as backing up various processes in Support Services (ACH, Plastic cards, wires). This position is part of the Finance (Accounting/Support Service) Team, supporting three (3) branches and working directly with other departments.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
Accounting duties:
Accounting (Plastic support)
- ATM daily/weekly reconciliations
- Coordinate ATM maintenance issues
- ATM related adjusting entries, including fee reversals and transaction corrections.
- ATM /POS disputes.
- Process daily Visa postings
- Process daily Debit Card ticking report journal entries (adjusting members’ accounts)
Accounting (Other)
- Accounts Payable – data entry and check printing
- Process the following Loan insurance and Loan program monthly postings along with their corresponding reconciliations:
- CDI Insurance
- MBI Route 66
- Gap Insurance
- Processes Student Loan accounting activity, including loan disbursements, payment postings and other student loan related activities, including the logging of Student Loan activity for audits.
- Assist with data gathering for various analysis
Support Service duties:
Plastics
- Primary backup for Business Debit and Credit Card administration
- Primary backup for HELOC Credit Card administration
- Primary backup for Consumer Debit and Credit Card administration
- Responsible for timely resolution of all outstanding reconciliation items for Visa Debit and Credit Cards
- Plastic card responsibilities
- Manage plastic card fraud tracking & documentation
- Prepare & submit plastic card bond claims and manage tracking of claims
- Process plastic card charge backs, adjustments and provisional credit to members
ACH/Wires
- Serve as primary backup to Support Service Rep. (ACH, wires)
- Responsible for timely resolution of all outstanding reconciliation items for ACH
Fraud
- Responsible for fraud monitoring and Credit Union wide fraud tracking as well as assisting with fraud prevention efforts.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform all daily member account adjustments
- Coordinate log to track all front line help issues
- Manage Shared Branching activity and monitor Shared Branching reports
- Responsible for various projects including but not limited to Unclaimed Property/Escheatment, ATM analysis)
- Responsible for writing and updating procedures for direct responsibilities
- Stock office supplies & forms on a weekly basis/distribute office supplies to departments
- Manage bad address process related to plastic cards

- Knowledge of NCUA compliance as it relates to the function.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Requires 2 year (Associates degree) in Accounting and 1-2 years work experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in a financial institution.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills.
- Well-organized, efficient, flexible and detail oriented. Strong customer service attitude.
- Ability to research and solve problems independently or in a team.
- Strong analytical and math skills.
- Intermediate knowledge and proficiency with Windows based PC systems and software, including MS Office (Word and Excel.)
