Description Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the AeroVironment Corporate Controller on a solid line basis and dotted line to the GM of EES, the Director of Finance for EES will bring both a strategic and operational focus to EES' planning and financial operations, with a particular emphasis on delivery of solid financial plans and improved compliance and controls.
  • This is a new role in the Finance Group and will provide sound business judgment, strategic thinking, and broad financial and business perspective across the EES organization.
  • Direct the preparation of  EES strategic plans, annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
  • Continually review operational forecasts and reported results on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis.
  • Produce monthly internal and customer management reports and analyses.
  • Participate in all business operating reviews.
  • Seek ways to improve financial reporting and controls in a high volume services oriented business environment.
  • Drive operational excellence throughout financial function.
  • Deliver financial results according to budgets and financial plans.
  • Support sales staff with analysis of customer credit risk and assist in shaping deals to provide maximum value to customer and AV.
  • Oversee and manage costing of proposal development.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, GAAP and government regulations.  
  • Monitor and ensure implementation of financial policies.
  • Provide day-to-day financial direction to the site leadership and the program team.
  • Add rigor to business decision-making as EES grows.  
  • Become involved with the business in terms of capital allocation, return on investment, modeling for deals, etc.

Requirements Required Qualifications and Background
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required; CPA desired; MBA desired.
  • Experience in operational financial control (budgeting), GAAP accounting, loss minimization, asset/investment optimization (make/buy; ROA), planning, measurement and operational finance
  • Some experience in a DoD contracting environment, to include knowledge of government accounting, proposal pricing, and Federal Acquisition Regulations / Cost Accounting Standards.
  • Ability to build, develop and motivate a first-rate team, and capability to grow professionally into other roles.
  • Reputation as a team player who effectively builds and leverages internal and external alliances.
  • Demonstrated track record of attention to detail, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Pursues potential decision areas very proactively, constantly looking ahead to what decisions will be needed.
