St. John’s Well Child & Family Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing medical, dental, and mental health services to uninsured and under-insured residents of Downtown and South Los Angeles. For more information visit

Position Description:
St. John's Well Child & Family Center has an immediate need for Medical Assistants at our Compton and Lincoln Heights clinics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain patient flow and reduce waiting time as much as possible.
• Maintain examining and treatment rooms by cleaning and setting up equipment
• Keeping rooms stocked with supplies, and preparing examining tables.
• Perform such duties as taking temperature, weight, blood pressure, hearing screening, plotting growth parameters, perform urinalysis and hemoglobin testing and pulse
• Prepare patients for examinations; advise patients concerning preparation for tests.
• Document administration of Immunizations and medications in chart.
• Administer immunization injections/treatments; must be done only with licensed physician on premises.
• Call patients with abnormal results.
• Keep logs: lead, medications, record refrigerator temperatures and zero scales daily and abnormal TB results.
• Calibrate Hemocue daily and urine machine monthly.
• Help with translation for Doctors.
• Notify physicians and nurse practitioners when supplies need to be ordered.
• Performs EKG's and assists provider during examinations as needed.
• Obtain limited information from patients as to reason for visit, symptoms, etc.
• Document and chart patient information.
• May schedule appointments for patients as well as appointments for patient referrals.
• Perform lab proficiency testing, run in-house lab tests, prepare outside lab specimens, check lab orders and bills for accuracy.
• MA review of charts.
• Serve as advocate for Indigent Program organizing forms for providers, instructing patients, helping patients complete forms, and serving as liaison with drug companies.
• May perform receptionist and/or routine clerical duties such as filling out forms, answering telephones, or filing
• May perform standard diagnostic x-rays, develop film, and perform minor maintenance on film processor.
• May help file back medical charts.
• Send out Medical Records when requested by other offices.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and eligible to test for the national certification exam. Basic knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT medical coding (International Classification of Diseases - 9th Revision Clinical Modification and Current Procedural Terminology).
Must have reliable transportation and ability to drive to other local St. John's clinics as required.
Must be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish and English.
Hours: 40 hrs weekly, set around a 8:30AM – 5:00PM/Monday – Friday schedule.
