Description

Southern Prosthetic Supply (SPS), the world’s largest orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) distributor and subsidiary of Hanger Orthopedic Group is looking for a Purchasing Manager.     This position manages, trains and develops a purchasing team in order to reduce direct material costs and the administrative costs associated with the procurement of goods and services while maximizing inventory turns and limiting stock outs.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement effective purchasing policies, procedures and guidelines to simplify and improve the process of requisitioning supplies. Provide appropriate verbal and written communication, training, and measurements systems to departmental personnel. 

  • Support the Director of Purchasing in identifying appropriate qualified vendors for the provision of goods and services utilized by the entire corporation.

  • Negotiate effectively to develop discount agreements and contracts for the supply of goods and services to all divisions and offices.

  • Identify and explore other related cost saving opportunities through consideration of distributorships, aggregate billing systems, on line ordering etc.  

  • Manage the completion of daily, weekly and monthly reports.

  • Oversee and monitor the support of other inter-company department’s requests. 

 

 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with vendors in returning excess inventory.
  • Resolve vendor shipping errors and other inventory returns.
  • Daily buying of important, difficult and tricky products.
Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior communication skills required to effectively develop relationships with all levels of company personnel and all vendor contacts. 

 

 

 

  • Negotiating skills to develop aggressive agreements beneficial for a wide range of goods and services with both national and local vendors.
  • Management ability required to effectively supervise purchasing staff, process program roll outs, and ensure ongoing compliance with the purchasing programs by all corporate and field employees. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Required Credentials:

  • Bachelors Degree in related area.

  • Three to five years of purchasing management.

  • Certified in Purchasing Management (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).

  • Three to five years of distribution or re-sale purchasing experience.
