Description

Our client is seeking a System/Network Design Engineer to work in their Annapolis, Maryland location. The Systems and Network Engineering team has an opening for an engineer to perform system engineering design, network design, and end-to-end system performance testing in support of our clients world-wide aviation datalink service.  This service provides air/ground data communications for airlines and business aviation enabling aircraft computers to network and exchange information with ground based computers anywhere in the world using VHF, HF, and satellite based radio links, and our client’s private, globe-spanning WAN.  The system is comprised of hundreds of radio ground stations, interfaces to satellite ground-earth stations, interfaces to hundreds of airline and civil aviation authority systems, and complex, proprietary message processing and system management servers, all connected by a complex and sizeable communication infrastructure.  The system is subject to continuous change as networking and communication technologies evolve.

This engineer will support these system updates, enhancements, and expansions by:

  • Developing and analyzing requirements
  • Documenting operational scenarios
  • Developing and documenting system architecture and network topology
  • Coordinating with other teams and external customers and agencies
  • Configuring routers network components
  • Preparing system acceptance test plans
  • Conducting system level functional and regression testing
  • Providing post-fielding support.

 

Our client is an SEI/CMM Level 3 certified engineering organization, so this engineer is expected to follow relevant network and system engineering processes.


Requirements

Qualifications

The candidate must have…

  • At lease five (5) years experience designing and maintaining a large-scale, geographically diverse internetworked data communication system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project life cycle support, including requirements development, analysis, design, test, implementation and post cutover support.
  • Proven experience of working successfully within a multi-discipline engineering team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in routing protocol implementation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

 

Desired Experience

  • Understanding of aviation communication protocols. Demonstrated ability and training to implement reliable WAN routing protocols.
  • Supporting international system expansion initiatives.
  • Supporting high availability systems.

 

Education

Required: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
