Manager, Risk Management Casualty Claims

Con-way Enterprise Services, a global leader in transportation and global supply chain, has an immediate opening for a Manager, Risk Management Casualty Claims to join our team in Portland, OR.

Summary:

Responsible for managing the corporate Casualty Claims Departments by developing and guiding the implementation and coordination of corporate claims management, administration and handling. Establishes the corporate claim strategy and policy.  Responsible for the overall technical and administrative operations of the staff and vendors.  Will handle information and paperwork that is confidential and sensitive in nature.

 

Essential Functions:

·       Manage  the Casualty Claims Departments to assure the implementation of claim policies, practices, and procedures to achieve company objectives for efficiency of claims operations, including directly handling complex, high valued claims, attending trials, depositions, arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences and performing the role as 24/7 contact for catastrophic claims.

·       Responsible for the selection and direction of Third Party Administrators, attorneys, independent adjusters, experts and other vendors to include establishment and application of technical and administrative audit procedures to assure program quality.

·       Responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, and establishing the corporate claim policies and procedures for a multi-department national claim operation, with international exposures.

·       Initiate and participate in multi-jurisdictional lobbying efforts and coordinate public relations/media activities related to claims and insurance.

·       Ensure consistency in achieving corporate performance goals, according to local, state, federal, and international standards governed by statute.

·       Maintain expertise and keep informed of developments and trends as they relate to the methods and procedures of the enterprise. Monitor and contribute to the organization's competitive edge by implementing and executing best in class strategies.

·       Develop direct reports to increase the bench strength and flexibility of the team.    Ensure that employees (department and enterprise wide) receive appropriate training and resources to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently. 

·       Handle all management level responsibilities for staff, including performance reviews, employee development, and establishment and monitoring of authority levels, hiring, firing, coaching, mentoring and counseling.

·       Ensure a positive work environment and awareness by all staff of company goals and objectives and compliance to all applicable employment policies.

·       Lead by example and perform in accordance with the Con-way Core Values and actively manage teams in support of the core

·       Create and promote effective communication.

 



Job Requirements
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·       Bachelor's degree in business management or related field.  Insurance/risk management/claims related courses and/or certifications in Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and Associate in Claims (AIC) preferred.

·       10+ years of Risk Management experience in claims handling and administration including Third Party Administrations, litigation, and insurance and risk management services.  Multi-line claims experience a plus. 

·       Broad range of network and desktop knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite and internal and external risk management/claims systems.

·       Strong comprehensive knowledge of casualty, property, and workers compensation claims including claims management, administration, handling techniques, procedures, litigation, risk management and insurance.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills in customer & vendor settings, and with internal and vendor/customer senior management. Solid active listening, facilitation and presentation skills.

·       Demonstrated successful ability to manage internal and external customer expectations.

·       Strong ability to lead and manage staff to produce high quality results on time and within budget.

·       Extensive negotiation and problem solving skills.

·       Extensive ability to establish strong business relationships and work effectively with senior business, vendor and client contacts.  Strong/effective interpersonal skills and administrative ability, professional demeanor.

·         Travel possible, up to 5%.
