Director of Benefit Administration
New York City, NY
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, provide leadership, strategic direction and establishes guiding principles in Benefits Strategy and Administration. Responsible for the operations of the Hospital’s employee and retiree benefits programs, which includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement plans, worker’s compensation, FMLA/Disability Administration and tuition assistance. Ensures that plans are administered in compliance with Hospital policies as well as regulatory requirements including COBRA and ERISA.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates competitive trends in employee benefits coverage and recommends improvements.
- Ensures that employees and retirees are properly enrolled in plans and that the benefit related data is accurate and up-to-date.
- Ensures communication to employees and retirees is timely, accurate with compassion and understanding.
- Develops, oversees and / or monitors processes and systems related to departmental or interdepartmental outcomes.
- Develops, recommends and administers benefits programs in accordance with the Hospital’s Total Compensation Philosophy and fiscal objectives.
- Ensures timely preparation of reports and statements required by management or regulatory agencies.
- Monitors Worker’s Compensation in conjunction with risk management. Ensures timely payment to employees as necessary.
- Oversees the Hospital’s FMLA/ Disability Administration to ensure compliance with all the applicable regulations, and ensures timely communication to Department Management related to employee’s out of work due to disabilities.
- Oversees the Hospital Tuition Reimbursement program. Ensure accurate tracking of data and timely reimbursement.
- Rectifies problems by notifying relevant personnel or, where appropriate taking direct action.
- Audits participation and claim records of each plan routinely. Approves audited bills to ensure timely payment of premiums.
- Provides user-friendly support and is responsive to customer requests.
- Ensures that all employees, retiree and vendor requests for benefit related information are responded to in a timely manner.
- Ensure expeditious and accurate Pension Calculations for qualified individuals.
Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
· A minimum of 10-15 years Human experience in a large, healthcare organization, at least 5 years of Human Resources leadership experience.
· Master’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field.
· Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification preferred,
· Healthcare industry experience preferred
· Strong knowledge of Human Resources as it relates to Benefit Administration including:
a. Health and Welfare (medical, Dental, Life, AD&D, LTD, FSA)
b. Retiree Medical Administration
c. Defined Benefit/Defined Contribution Plans (403 (b), 457(B), etc.)
d. Disability Administration (i.e. FMLA and Workers Compensation)
· Strong Managerial presence; superior verbal and written communication skills; exceptional presentation skills
· Ability to develop existing Benefit Staff
