L. Knife & Son, Inc. was founded in 1898 by Luigi Cortelli, a shepherd and immigrant from northern Italy, who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Mr. Cortelli, whose name was Americanized to Louis Knife, sold groceries from a horse-drawn cart and eventually added grains and animal feeds to his business. His son Domero established a distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch in 1934 following the repeal of Prohibition. After Domero's death in 1963, his son-in-law, Gerald Sheehan, bought the business and has been its president since.

The company, which is now four generations strong in family ownership and operation, has grown to include an importing company, and twelve distribution operations which provide statewide coverage in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Legends Ltd of Baltimore, MD – distributor of some of the finest beers in the world and a member of the L. Knife & Son, Inc. family of distributors – is in search of an energetic and enthusiastic Office Manager.  This individual will direct and supervise the office department, prepare weekly payrolls, ensure that all accounting information is recorded accurately and prepare monthly financial statements.

 

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

·         Supervise, train, backup, and provide support for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Invoice Reconciliation and Switchboard functions according to each job description

·         Delegate and schedule work assignments for office personnel as needed

·         Reconcile and post entries for daily bank and cash activity

·         Post daily entries for sales, inventory, and AR activity

·         Run all monthly maintenance procedures to update inventory files and balance sales and inventory reports. Review reports for discrepancies, correct and rerun. Save all permanent month-end reports to corporate server

·         Prepare monthly alcohol tax return and quarterly sales tax return.  Reconcile all accrued tax liability accounts

·         Reconcile and balance all company bank statements, petty cash

·         Ensure that Accounts Payables postings and cutoffs are completed according to monthly fiscal calendar

·         Prepare entries for beer, alcohol, pallets, cooperage and returnables inventory.  Investigate, reconcile, and post variances monthly 

·         Post entries for monthly supplier credit requests and reconcile gross profit

·         Prepare monthly Profit and Loss statement reconciling all balance sheet accounts that materially affect the statement

·         Prepare reconciliations for balance sheet accounts monthly.  Investigate and resolve reconciling items monthly 

·         Research and resolve un-vouched PO issues with AP and Inventory Manager

·         Provide assistance and guidance to other departments as needed

·         Conduct office employee performance appraisals

·         Work with IT on all computer related issues for all departments when needed

·         Plan for staffing needs and interview prospective employees

·         Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of VIP/AS400 computer system and network communication equipment

·         Ensure compliance with corporate-wide accounting procedures and policies

·         Prepare the office budget and report on variances

·         Other duties as assigned

·         BA/BS degree preferably with accounting emphasis

·         2 to 5 years proven accounting experience

·         Excellent organizational and communication skills

·         Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
