Description

Community Support Worker 

Residential Options, Inc is an affiliate of Challenge Unlimited, Inc and provides support and services to individuals with disabilities which will assist them to live, work and participate in the community.  Residential has 13 homes that provide living assistance for 130 residents.  Eight homes are in Alton, plus one home in Godfrey, one home in Edwardsville, one home in Collinsville and two homes in Pontoon Beach, IL. 

Employees work at one home location and usually for one type of shift.  Most common available shifts are 10:00pm to 6:00am / 8:00am, 2:00pm to 10:00pm or 6:00am to 2:00pm.  See our website, cuinc.org under the employment tab for specific openings, shifts and locations.  

The Hab Tech and Community Support Worker both perform the same type of work and differ only in the type of home based on number of residents and type of disability.  Hab Tech's work together in ICF homes that serve up to 16 residents who have a developmental disability such as mental retardation.  Community Support Workers work together in a CILA home that serve up to 8 residents who have a developmental disability and/or a mental illness.



Duties include:

  • Train, supervise and assist Residents with all the activities of daily living (personal hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, taking medications, shopping, appointments, and social activities).  
  • Provide any treatment service as outlined in the resident's individual plan, follow the daily activity schedule and complete daily documentation in the resident's file.  
  • Work with the home's manager in communicating residents' needs and in providing information for billing purposes.  
  • Participate in planning meetings for the residents as requested and attend / participate in company training sessions as required. 
Most shifts and positions require occasional driving of the company van to transport residents to appointments and for shopping and social activities.

Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or GED and ability to pass a short reading comprehension quiz
  • Criminal background and employment checks required for all positions. 
  • Most positions require driving the company van on occasion so those applicants must be as least 21 or older, have a valid drivers license and a good driving history record for the past 3 years. 

Experience with people with developmental disabilities (DD) or mental illness (MI) is helpful, but not required.
