Devereux was founded in 1912 by Helena Devereux in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is the largest not-for-profit provider of behavioral healthcare in the country, operating 15 centers in 11 states - Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Devereux Day School serves students with moderate to severe behavioral and emotional needs by providing a safe and secure environment and an atmosphere that allows students to grow personally and educationally. We are looking for a full-time SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER for our day school located on the campus of our residential treatment center in Scottsdale.
Once you're hired, this position requires 2 full weeks of training (paid) and you'll need to be available for ALL days/times to be considered. Upcoming new hire orientation is as scheduled:
NOVEMBER NEW HIRE ORIENTATION: Mon, 11/9 - Fri, 11/13: 8:30am-5pm & Mon, 11/16 - Fri, 11/20: 8:30am-5pm
The Teacher is responsible for creating and instructing daily lesson plans (lessons based on ability of students and their Individual Education Plan), using differentiated instruction. He/she will work with individuals and small groups and provide daily assessments of student progress.
In addition to meeting the educational needs of the classroom, the Teacher is also responsible for the management of the classroom. With help from the Teacher’s Assistant, the Teacher will monitor behavior and guide students to socially appropriate behavior, while consistently being a role model. He/she will also complete progress reports, shift reports, supervise lunch, and attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and the school committee.
The Devereux Day School will support male and females ages 6-21 who may exhibit:
- Sudden Mood Changes
- Isolative, Withdrawn Behavior
- Aggression
- Self-Harming Behavior
- Anxiety
- Easily Frustrated or Angered
- Academic Difficulties
- Learning Disabilities
- History of Trauma
Devereux Day School also serves students who require a step-down from a hospital or residential treatment setting.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Special Education and a valid AZ Special Education Cross-Categorical certification required. One year experience teaching children/adolescents in a Special Education classroom required. The ideal candidate would have a proven history of longevity with previous employers (more than one year of employment).

-Pass DMV history check
-Pass Criminal background check
-Pass pre-employment physical and physical abilities test (see below)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Significant and frequent amounts of walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing required
· Ability to lift 20-45 lbs to physically intervene with clients per Crisis Prevention Intervention
techniques
· Frequent planned, outside activities causing exposure to sunlight and heat
· Annual physical and Tuberculosis (TB) test showing evidence you are able to perform your job and free from TB
