Marketing and Analysis Manager

Spherion's client, a group of speciality newspaper publications, is looking for a dynamic individual to accomplish the following:

  • Primary responsibility is to help them increase paid circulation for their stable of specialized newspapers
  • As circulation and marketing manager, you’ll develop and execute an array of sales campaigns for them, all done with support from their corporate circulation department
  • The corporate circulation department can handle much of the logistics, but they will look to the St. Louis Circulation and Marketing Manager as the person on the ground to run the local efforts, among them:

§      Direct-mail and telemarketing campaigns: they  want you to come up with the strategies and the concepts, and execute on them—whether it’s developing a new look and message for blow-in cards, multi-piece mailers, or scripting telephone sales

§      Outside sales calls, affinity relationships: you’ll need to be comfortable paying calls on Missouri companies and associations and negotiating group sales deals with them

§      Showing the flag: they’ll want you to attend seminars and other gatherings to represent them and, even better, sign a few orders.

 Web Marketing

  • Their website, and their daily alerts are significant elements of their media package; serving as aggregators of information, opinion forums, blog spots, and a tool box. You will take the lead on leveraging the power of their online presence to collect data, to direct traffic to the unique functions the website offers, to procure subscriptions, to promote events, and so much more.

 Quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Subscription promotion is very much data driven, and so Excel skills are a must. You’ll need to get up to speed on response rates, renewal rates, and break-even analysis. You’ll continually test-market different direct-mail pieces, different price points and different mailing lists; you’ll measure, compare, and analyze the results; you’ll tinker and fine tune them accordingly; and then you’ll begin the analytics anew.

Creative skills

  • This is a job that uses both sides of your brain. In addition to the analytical skills mentioned above, we’ll look to you to come up with creative designs, sparkling promotional copy, and even off-the-wall campaigns to sell subscriptions or gain the attention of the marketplace

 Organizational skills

  • Needless to say, if you’re not careful, you can run in too many different directions. So, it’s essential that you have strong organizational skills and be meticulous about follow up.

Events marketing

  • The client hosts a handful of events during the year and sponsors several more. They’ll want you to manage the marketing of these events, which will include developing the ticket sales site, creating house ads, developing outreach strategies, and recommending the strategy behind the sponsorships.

Readership studies

  • They want you to help us stay close to their readers—former, current and potential. They'll want you to help them develop reader surveys and convene informal focus groups or other get-togethers with their customers.

Sure footed confidence

  • Enthusiasm – coupled with the obsessive need to make sure every speciality individual in Missouri is subscribing – will take you places. As the Circulation and Marking Manager, you drive the bus.
  • They expect that you will bring them recommendations, that you know your market, your budget, and your product.
  • They expect you to lead
