Description
Lead Teachers are responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programming to children at Little Learners. Staff must be willing to work individually and as a team to plan, develop, and oversee implementation of the daily program, as well as insuring the developmental and emotional needs of children are met. Little Learners exists to inspire and enable all children to realize their full potential. Activities shall be planned to encourage the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of each child. An emphasis shall be placed on the learning process during these activities rather then on the finished product. High self-esteem shall be nurtured in each child and shall be a main goal of the program. Every child shall be accepted for who they are and their current level of development. Little Learners Educational Program was developed with the knowledge that young children learn:

· Through active exploration of their environment
· At their own speed
· When they are treated in a respectful manner
· When their environment is child-centered
Little Learners Educational Center firmly believes that children learn through play. As children interact with their environment, adults, and other children, they learn to make choices and resolve conflicts. All staff at Little Learners shall maintain this philosophy.
Key Roles
· Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, which meets program philosophy.
· Creating and implementing individualized developmental plans, and creating a developmental portfolio for each child
· Complete bi-annual assessment of children's development
· Report progress of children to parents in bi-annual reports and through parent-teacher conferences
· Meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child
· Maintain classroom schedule
· Encourage assistants to contribute to curriculum planning and implementation
· Prepare monthly news letter to parents
· Maintain accuracy of information entered into children’s daily sheets
· Maintain children and center confidentiality
· Report any suspect abuse to DCFS
· Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy
· Ensure that facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained
o Inspect and remove damaged materials
o Notify Center Director of damaged, lost, or needed equipment
o Maintain cleanliness of classroom, equipment and toys
· Attend in-service and staff meetings
· Complete 15 hours of in-service training yearly as required by DCFS
Meet all applicable licensing regulations
Requirements
Must be teacher qualified
- 19 years of age
- High school diploma
- Additional educational requirement
Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited university with six semester hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development
OR
One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and thirty semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development
Applicants that have an associates degree or higher will be considered first.
