Summary – Technical Service Manager
Michael Baker Jr., Inc. (a division of Michael Baker Corporation) a leading professional services firm consistently ranked among the top 50 national design firms (ENR 2008) seeks a Market Sector Manager (MSM) to join our growing Rail/Transit (R/T) Practice. The position could be located in our Philadelphia, Newark, Manhattan, or Chicago offices.
Responsibilities -Technical Service Manager:
Visibility:
- Technical face of Baker (internal and external) in Rail/Transit.
- AREMA/APTA membership, committees, presentations, publications.
Business Development:
- Identify business development/growth opportunities.
- Participate in/lead proposal preparation activities.
- Develop technical strategies for major client pursuits.
- Provide business sales support/advice.
- Provide technical content.
Resource Management:
- Support operational hiring - Recruit.
- Facilitate mentoring of staff.
- Assess Baker staff by expertise, locality, number and ability.
Quality Assurance, Risk Management and Project Execution:
- Coordinate quality assurance/quality control procedures.
- Perform quality assessments/audits.
- Participate in project scoping and technical approach.
- Work across offices/regions to define and implement strategy.
- Provide knowledge transfer regarding Baker projects (past and current).
- Identify model projects (both internal and external) and templates.
- Develop recognition and reward process.
Technical Advancement:
- Provide/identify technical leadership.
- Ensure technical execution.
- Promote/lead technical expansion/growth of service.
Other Activities:
- Hold monthly conference call with local Rail/Transit leads/Yearly face to face meeting.
- Attend regular meetings with other TSM’s (Transportation and Federal).
- Assist/lead major project implementation/execution.
- Coordinate resources (developing virtual organizational structure).
- Provide guidance on the hiring, transferring, and growing personnel.
- Participate in growth initiatives.
- Indentify acquisitions and participate in acquisition evaluations.
- Attend industry conferences/seminars.
- Recruit key technical staff.
