This position is responsible for Project Management of all aspects of assigned projects.  The successful Program Manager will integrate cross-functional groups into a cohesive project team to successfully implement new logistics projects for existing and new customers. The Program Manager will manage, coach and counsel Industry Group Project Management resources to ensure process compliance and timely and accurate project reporting.  The Program Manager is expected to know and actively practice all of the tools used in the discipline of Project Management to manage project resources, budget, scope and schedule.  The successful candidate will have strong customer interfacing skills.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Menlo Worldwide Operations and cross-functional groups, customers and suppliers to define project requirements to ensure that the implementation of new strategies and initiatives will effectively meet the requirements and customer expectations.
  • Lead and manage project activities with Menlo and customer’s cross functional teams within the scope of the contractual agreements. 
  • Effectively plan, schedule, control and close projects by managing cost, schedule, scope and risk.
  • Responsible for meeting Menlo’s and customer’s project start up metrics (safety, quality, cost, delivery and morale).
  • Ensure all activities required to meet the project requirements are performed on time, within budgetary constraints, and at an acceptable level of quality and risk.
  • Provide timely, accurate and concise communication to the customer and cross functional groups.
  • Executing the standard start up process and contributing to the continuous improvement efforts of that process
  • Train, coach, mentor, and ensure project managers are executing to the standard     defined start up processes
  • Aid in project sourcing and resolving of source conflict
  • Identify and escalate project issues appropriately through Red Flag and other management reviews
  • Identify scope changes and manage effectively with all functional groups and customer
  • Interface directly with key stakeholders of the specific Industry Group to provide expert analysis and input around specific project and approaches using the standard start up process, tools, and procedures
  • Transfer Responsibilities to Operations. Build trust and communicate change to Operations. Ensure successful knowledge transfer at completion of the program.

  

  

Position-specific Responsibilities:

  

  • Facilitate and manage Pre-Joint Planning Sessions (Pre-JPS), Joint Planning Session (JPS), and Integrated Design Sessions (IDS)
  • Build, manage and maintain a detailed MS Project schedule that provides realistic project timeline at a manageable level following standard Project Management practices.
  • Work with all functional team members in understanding what needs to be completed, by when and who has ownership of the activities.
  • Use the standard processes for determining cost, level of effort and time durations.
  • Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements (i.e. contracts, permits, tariffs, etc.)
  • Ensure adherence to all Menlo and CNW policies and procedures (i.e.  Safety, training, lean training, IT, finance, etc.)
  • Ensure adherence to all customer policies and procedures (i.e.  metrics, processes, communications, etc.)
  • Facilitate project status calls with the project team and senior management.
  • Provide time and cost analysis to Menlo Senior Management and key customer contacts for any project variances.
  • Recognize when an issue has occurred and determine its impact on the project and escalate the issue to the appropriate level for corrective action (i.e. staffing, safety, IT systems, facility concerns, etc.).
  • Anticipate potential snags in process workflow and be ready with contingency plans
  • Anticipate risks to quality, schedule, scope and cost; develop contingency plans accordingly
  • Share knowledge of best practices with the operational team to meet the needs of the business.
  • Operate projects in accordance with Lean principles
  • Bridge resource gaps when a need arises to ensure the success of a project
  • Provide feedback on PM performance at the project level
  • Participate and contribute to process improvement initiatives and kaizen activities
  • Lead/assist in performance reviews of Project Managers and supplemental contract employees
  • Be recognized internally and externally as an expert on relevant topics by demonstrating in-depth knowledge

  • Conduct lessons learned for each completed project
  • Publish lessons learned and project metrics to Menlo PMO
  • Travel Requirements: You may be required to travel depending on the project requirements.  Travel could range anywhere from 30% to 70%
  • May require extended hours in order to meet customer’s needs. 

 

Requirements

Experience:

  • This position requires 3-5 years managerial experience in an operations setting providing overall direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of logistics solutions in all phases of supply chain management.
  • Also requires 2-3 years of multi-functional project management experience; PMP certification preferred but not required.
  • Supply Chain experience a plus
  • Construction management suitable substitute for supply chain experience

 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field preferred; experience may substitute for education.  Project Management specific educational background, either College level certification courses or a Project Management Professionals (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred, not mandatory.

•           Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

•           Work Environment:  The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment and a warehouse environment, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office equipment and warehouse equipment.
