Job Description

Health Information Management

Texas Specialty Hospital Dallas, a 66 bed, long term acute care facility for patients who require extended hospitalization to meet their medical needs is seeking a well rounded, experienced HIM professional to lead our department. We are seeking a working manager who has recent hands on inpatient coding experience.  Demonstrated ability to perform problem-solving and cognitive reasoning, routinely analyzing situations to make informed decisions.
 
Position Summary:

  • Ensures compliance with health information requirements established by The Joint Commission, NCQA, federal and state regulations, DPH, CMS, medical staff bylaws and regional and local policies and procedures
  • Be responsible for directing, implementing, and coordinating all programs, policies, and procedures within the HIM Department
  • Be responsible for the daily coding and functions of the HIM Department.
  • Be responsible for the direct supervision of one other employee in the HIM Department
  • Actively participate in meetings with the Governing Board, Medical Staff, Case Management, Utilization  Review, etc
  • Medical Staff Credentialing
  • Utilize an open communication style with all levels of staff

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Ideal candidate must have full understanding of ICD-9 Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting Diagnoses and Procedures published by CMS and NCHS as well as IPPS. 

Working knowledge of JCAHO Standards and .HIPAA/ROI regulations

1-3 years of ICD-9-CM coding and DRG experience in an acute care hospital or LTAC setting

Experience with CPSI and 3M Coder systems

Degree in Health Information Management preferred

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred with 1-3 years  HIM experience in a hospital/LTAC environment required. Ability to handle a variety of projects/tasks simultaneously Strong written and verbal skills required.
