Job Description

BankAtlantic is currently seeking a qualified Small Business Underwriter who will process and decision small business loan applications and Middle Market loan requests in accordance with BankAtlantic’s credit policy and procedures, complying with all appropriate governmental and regulatory requirements, and within established departmental Service Level Agreements (SLAs).  Work primarily on judgmental requests.  Lending authority up to $750M.

Additional responsibilities are as follows:

  • Prepare financial statement spreadsheets.

  • Calculate debt service coverage and debt to worth worksheets

  • Prepare credit memo write-up for loan committee presentation.

  • Assist the junior Underwriters in the evaluation of Small Business credit requests.

  • Engage commercial real estate appraisals and review the appraisals and environmental reports for commercial mortgage loans.

  • Ensures approved loans have satisfactory asset quality.

  • Performs annual reviews.

  • Identifies target overrides and policy exceptions for approval.

  • Prepares Credit Facility Summary sheet (CFS), commitment letters.

  • Identifies for Store Managers and Business Bankers items required for closing.

  • Communicates with Store Managers, Business Bankers, and possibly clients, CPAs, and attorneys, regarding underwriting decisions and questions, accounting information, loan conditions, loan closings, etc.

  • Coaches junior staff members, Store Managers and Business Bankers on credit policy requirements, approval terms and conditions.

  • Prepare and analyze management reports as necessary.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  4- year degree in finance, accounting or related field or equivalent work experience; MBA or advanced degree a plus; line production/sales experience a plus.

Experience:  5+  years commercial and/or small business underwriter experience with comparable individual lending authority

Soft skills include the abiltiy to build collaborative relationships; conduct precise analysis, exercise excellent judgment and exhibit decisiveness.  Must have customer interaction/ problem solving/ negotiating skills; excellent analytical and communication skills; ability to organize and prioritize; expertise and demonstrated technical skills in commercial credit analysis and underwriting; extensive knowledge of business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports

Software:  credit scoring front end system, word processing and spreadsheet software.

Knowledge of business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports.

Must be able to interact with all levels of the Bank and the Community.

Must attend annual training on, and understand AML/BSA procedures.
