Job Description 

  • Risk assessment and selection for mid and large case market

  • Produce rates for new groups using company proposal system

  • Prepare formal proposals and renewals using word processing, spreadsheet tools and software as applicable

  • Complete annual renewals for all products and performs related maintenance tasks

  • Services group clients including benefit changes, reporting and response to telephone and email inquiries

  • Assists in the preparation of Request for Proposal (RFP) responses

  • Verify rates on sold cases including final rating

  • Assist in training lower level underwriters and sales staff

  • Authority to release cases up to $250,000 for products relating to Life, Disability, Dental and Worksite

  • Works on special product or rating projects as required

 


Job Requirements 

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field

  • 4+ years of underwriting experience preparing formal proposals and renewals with a commercial carrier

  • General knowledge of group insurance, dental and worksite products

  • Knowledge of underwriting principles and rating methodology

  • Prior experience mentoring and training junior staff members

  • Advance MS Office skills

  • Strong math skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to establish priorities and management multiple projects simultaneously

 

Business Specific Criteria (Preferred):

  • Masters Degree

  • FLMI and/or HIAA certification

  • Underwriting experience with Life, Disability or Dental products
