Description Trans Ova Genetics, the leader in bovine reproductive technologies, has an immediate opening for a full-time Bovine IVF Research Scientist at its headquarters in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Key Responsibilities:

 •  Collects information and develops ideas that could improve the efficiency of the Trans Ova IVF system.

 •  Filters the information and ideas, and with the supervisor, plans experiments to prove the ideas.
 
•  Performs experiments to prove new ideas before implementation into the current commercial IVF system.

•  Performs lab work including: medium preparation, oocyte retrieval from slaughterhouse derived ovaries, in vitro maturation of oocytes, in vitro fertilization, in vitro culture of embryos, embryo freezing and results checking, recording and analyzing.

•  Performs comparison tests for new batches of IVF media and embryo culture media for commercial use, and reports the results to the commercial IVF lab.

•   When needed, helps the commercial IVF program in oocyte searching, semen preparation, fertilization, embryo stripping, embryo culture, embryo freezing and other lab activities. On farm trips for oocyte searching/packing and embryo loading for transfer may be assigned when needed.

•  Follows Trans Ova’s policies and procedures.

•  Maintains a professional image reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.

•  Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements

Education Requirements:

 

A minimum of an M.S. degree in biology or related science is required.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

 

Ability to sit for long periods of time behind a microscope in a sterile lab setting.  Ability to work under a laminar flow hood.

 

Some travel is required.

 

 

Other skills/experience:

 

Profound knowledge in IVF and previous experience in embryology laboratory experiment and research work is required.

Experience in Bovine IVF and micromanipulation is preferred.

High level of detail orientation

Excellent hand to eye coordination

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
