JOB SUMMARY:
This position responsible for the day-to-day operations of the surgery and GI departments under the direction of the Surgery Nurse Manager. The position also requires all components in the Registered Nurse (Hospital) job description.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
¨ Advocate and support a working environment in which staff are motivated to develop their skills and abilities.
¨ Act as a clinical resource to surgery staff.
¨ Ensure timely turnover of rooms between cases
¨ Assign staff to cases appropriately; “Run the Board"
¨ Determine staffing level based on caseload and department needs, in accordance with productivity standards.
¨ Make staffing adjustments as required & clearly communicate adjustments.
¨ Reconciliation of charge entry process
¨ Facilitate communication between department and physician clinics.
¨ Organize, prioritize and delegate job responsibilities as appropriate.
¨ Function as pre-op, post-op, recovery room, endoscopy, and circulating RN as needed
¨ Oversee the patient pre-op preparation process, and assist with patient phone calls
¨ Demonstrate and encourage intra- and inter-departmental collaboration.
¨ Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills.
¨ Serve on various committees determined by job function.
¨ Identify department performance improvement projects. Problem solve in collaboration with nursing management.
¨ Promote an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward objectives; maintain effective communication and provide support to other staff members as needed.
¨ Order department supplies as appropriate.
¨ Promote optimal customer service; follow through on the hospital’s customer feedback process.
¨ Participate in the development/revision of department policies and procedures.
¨ Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to uphold and establish policies and procedures.
¨ Identify opportunities for improvement and possible solutions. Assist in carrying out the approved plan and communicate plan to the staff.
¨ Participate in data collection for quality assurance.
¨ Act as a professional role model and display positive attitude.
¨ Participate in surgery call rotation as needed.
Promptly communicate pertinent information regarding patient, physician, personnel
Requirements
¨ EDUCATION: Completion of approved nursing program.
¨ LICENSE: Current Wisconsin RN license.
¨ CERTIFICATES/ /REGISTRATION: BLS certification (within 90 days).
¨ ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required within 6 months)
¨ PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 6 months)
¨ NRP (Neonatal Resuscitative Program) required within 6 months)
¨ EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years clinical RN experience in surgery required. Leadership experience preferred.
SKILLS: Ability to read and follow written/verbal protocol.
